INT. MERCY HOSPITAL - MATERNITY WARD - WAITING ROOM

LILITH STERNIN; Frederick's mother; is pacing back-and-forth through the room nervous. She's dressed in her iconic overcoat and pinned back hair.

FRAISER CRANE; Federick's father; ENTERS the room holding an oversized teddy bear, pink balloons, and a large gift bag.

FRASIER Any word yet?

LILITH As of 1:38 p.m. today, you and I  became the grandparents of Sofia Lillian Crane.

FRASIER Have you seen her yet?

LILITH No. Lacy's parents went in first. We're next.

FRASIER Splendid. I was caught in a dilemma between giraffes, lions, and teddy bears.

LILITH Oh my. Do you think you may have gone a little overboard with the size?

FRASIER Not for our first grandchild. I plan to spoil her rotten.

LILITH Are you sure you're not trying to overcompensate?

FRASIER Don't start.

LILITH Sorry, old habits die hard. We need to set a better example for the newest addition in our family.

FRASIER Agreed.

LILITH I often wondered what it would've been like to have a girl.

FRASIER I didn't think you wanted another child.

LILITH I didn't.

FRASIER Don't say that in front of Freddy, he has enough to worry about.

NURSE peeks into the room.

NURSE They're ready for you guys.

Frasier holds the door open wider for Lilith to pass through first.

FRASIER After you, grandma Lilith.

LILITH Thank you, grandpa Frasier.

They both take pause at the sound of their new grandparent titles.

FRASIER We'll work on those later.

LILITH Absolutely.

INT. MATERNITY ROOM

Lacy is sleeping on a medical bed surrounded by flowers, cards, and other gifts. Frederick is cradling his newborn daughter by the window.

FREDERICK Mom. Dad. Are you ready to meet your granddaughter?

Frasier sets his gifts down by Lacy's bedside. Lilith holds out her arms first.

LILITH Pass me that precious bundle of joy.

Fredrick passes the newborn to Lilith.

FRASIER [looking over Lilith's shoulders] This takes me back.

Lilith shifts the pink blanket off the newborn's face.

LILITH She looks just like... uh?

FRASIER [concerned, serious] Hmmm? Son, you sure there wasn't a mix-up?

FREDERICK I know. She's too beautiful to be mine.

CLOSE UP of the newborn baby's face: half Chinese.
