Definitely going to go with "Saving Private Ryan". It captures the horrors and brutality of the Second World War, specifically the invasion of Normandy while also connecting you with the characters, while still also not showing much about them. You feel like you know them even though you don't. Each character has a different personality, a different story and a different aspect on the war itself. And it doesn't shy away from showing you just how nasty, brutal, and unforgiving war can be... which is why I love it so much.
