words couldn't describe how sakura haruno felt about her childhood best friend, sasuke uchiha. falling, was an understatement. sakura tumbled, over and over again, and never seems to be able to stop.
every morning, she'd get up, pat down some makeup, and meet him under the willow tree.
their willow tree.
and every morning, sasuke would be as quiet as ever. but he'd always be listening, lending an ear, and offering advice. as cold as he seemed, he always had time for sakura.
and she loved that about him.
from the willow tree, their adventurous days would begin.
now, whether that be making it to school on time before principal tsunade calls their parents or trying to navigate down town konoha with naruto as their guide, they always did it together.
and they always planned that they'd be together, under the willow tree.
--
words could describe how sakura was feeling in this moment. she was elated, perplexed, humored, and frustrated all in one.
"if i met a girl just like you, i'd kiss them right then and there."
it takes a moment for her to process the words, a silence that beats in the air for a few moments before she swallowed thickly. her own voice unrecognizable as she mutters,
"why not just kiss me? what difference does it make?"
sasuke, hadn't quite heard her. he stepped in close, bending over towards her, sakuras lips just inches away from his ears. a soft exhale left his lips as he spoke,
"pardon?"
every morning, sakura got up, made herself be the best version she could muster, and meet him under the willow tree.
their willow tree.
and every morning, sasuke would make comments about wanting a girl just like sakura, but not quite...sakura.
a smile formed on her lips as she backed away,
"it's nothing."
perfect in his eyes, yet not what he wants. she hated that about herself.
from the willow tree, her hopes would rise and shatter.
whether it be from the intimate moments they share, two friends not quite acting like friends. or suffering by hearing an indirect rejection every day.
her feelings always fluctuated, under that willow tree.
--
words are used for describing, yet, she could never really express how she felt towards sasuke.
every morning, she'd get herself ready, and meet him with the intent to confess. under the willow tree.
their willow tree.
and every morning, her courage would diminish with sasukes every word. he never understood her hints or gestures.
she hated that about him.
from the willow tree, her confessions would begin.
now, whether they be misunderstood ones, or interrupted ones. you could never say sakura didn't try.
as try is all she did. try is all she could do.
she always tried her hardest, under the same old willow tree.
--
words, don't matter, at least, not anymore they don't. and definitely not to sakura.
just like the other mornings, she would get ready, she would try hard to please, and meet with sasuke as usual. under the willow tree.
that was their willow tree. not hers.
unlike the other mornings, sasuke was already there. with a women with red hair. a beautiful women with red hair.
she hated that about her.
from the willow tree, she would watch and see, as her crush, partner, and best friend was swept off of his own two feet.
there was no more now. only then. the back then, where they'd laugh and share their thoughts.
replacement, a trivial thing it was, really. to sasuke anyways.
replacement, a word that echoed in her ears as the man she loved was laughing with another, smiling with another, and disregarding sakura, who also known as, the 'other'.
together they no longer were, underneath that same old willow tree.
--
in silence she watched, in silence she weep.
staring at her ceiling, catching no sleep.
her happiness had truly come to an end, as not only did she lose sasuke, but she lost her best friend.
as the days go by, sakura makes the smallest plea.
that he remembers their time, underneath the willow tree.
