I grew up in a household where being depressed is having an attitude problem, expressing how you feel is talking back (even when you're being respectful), and where you're expected to do more than your siblings.
On the outside looking in, we're the perfect family but behind closed doors it's like some sort of Lifetime movie. You know those parents that have a favorite child? Or where the mother feels like she has to control every aspect of your life or is your first bully? That's my mother.
I love her with all my heart but I'm speaking for over half of all black kids and teens, hell even some adults, when I say this, it's okay for your child to express how they feel without you assuming they're being disrespectful and make their own decisions for that matter.
And it's okay for you, the parent, to not always be right.

I know it doesn't make sense now but I'll explain it in The Book of Mars.
