Chapter 2:

Dusty had lead them towards the small forest. As they entered, Retriever could see most of the colors have changed on the leafs. He had never seen the trees in this stage much because his owner kept him inside from the cold. The elder nudged him and told him to sniff the air. He did as the Australian shepherd ordered and sniffed the cold fall air. Retriever let out a small gasp as he came across the smell of a squirrel.

"It's a squirrel!" he told Dusty and pointed his nose toward a dried up bush. The elderly male nodded and smiled at Retriever.

"You are right, young Retriever. Watch how to catch your food." Dusty explained and crouched down into the brown grass. He slowly moved side to side, getting closer to the bush. The young dog watched him carefully, seeing how he did this. Dusty moved quietly and finally jumped into the bush. Retriever heard no noise, he got scared that something happened, but his stress  melted away when the elder emerged from the bush with a dead squirrel in his jaw.

"Wow, that was amazing!" Retriever exclaimed as he dropped the squirrel in front of him. "Will you teach me how to do that?" he asked happily.

Dusty looked up at the sky and was thinking. He looked back down at the young golden retriever and nodded. "I'll teach you, sometime." the shepherd explained and nudged the squirrel closer to Retriever.

He hadn't eaten in a LONG time. Retriever licked his muzzle and dug in. Ripping the fresh squirrel and swallowing it. It's...sweet. It tastes...ddelicious. he thought as his stomach began to fill up with the juicy squirrel. The young male pulled away only to leave the bones of the squirrel there. Dusty used his paw to put dirt over the bones and scraps. He lead them back to the dirt streets only to then begin to pour water from the sky.

Retriever felt every drop go on his fur and he shivered. For him, the cold doubled but for Dusty he was use to being out in harsh airs, he WAS a stray after all. The elder looked up at the sky and licked the air as well as the rain water.

A gasp escaped his mouth and quickly turned towards Retriever. The young dog was confused. "Thunder storm..." Dusty murmured and he was shivering with fear.

He could smell it, now Retriever understood. Most dogs were afraid of thunder, but he wasn't one of them Dusty was. They stood in silence staring at each other in worry. Suddenly a loud flashing BOOM! broke the silence and the two jumped. Retriever looked up at the sky only to see thunder cracking the sky and its loud clap echoing across the sky. Humans ran inside their houses as well as house pets and stay animals hiding. Another loud clap boomed through the sound barrier. Suddenly a loud creek was heard behind them.
