Chapter Five: Simulation Serum

What Beatrice had said still clear in my mind, I practically sprinted to my lab. I wrote down everything I knew, and then logged on to the laptop. I needed Jeanines password and username to be able to get thr information I needed to begin the research.

I scrolled down the files, finally finding one called 'security.' Seeming the most promising, I opened it up. It was a password protected file. I thought about it for a while. First I tried 'knowlageispower.' Nope. Then 'eliminateabnegations.' Nope. Finally I attempted, 'nooneisclevererthanme.' Cleared. File after file loaded, all the passcodes to all the restricted buildings.

They were all, 'abnegationsucks' or something like that, until I came across one called 'divergents-must-die.' Divergents? I didn't know what that meant. Well, I'd heard stories, stories about the divergent rebels who had magic powers and were very dangerous. But... I'd never believed them. Everyone fitted into a faction Everyone.

I opened this file anyway, and what I found were battle plans. Someone called Max and someone called Eric seemed to be very involved. I read a bit more, my abnegation instincts completely disappearing. I was incredibly curious!

Scrolling down the document, I saw it was war plans on thr abnegation! But the Erudite couldn't have an army! So... what was happening? I needed to find out about the simulation serum.

I went to the library to find the map. Jeanines office was in the upper building. I decided to go later, when we had free time. But right now I needed to hand in my plans.

I walked up to my professors desk to hand in my plans. He smiled and said,

"So that girl, she is your sister, no?"

"Yes..." I was wary, why was he bringing this up?

"She was brought in for questioning. Believes all the reports we have released about your parents. Believes they are scum But you don't, do you Caleb?"

"Um..." I paused. No I didn't believe my parents are scum, but... I can't believe that Beatrice did. I also knew that saying I didn't believe the reports was a bad answer. I settled for vague. "Faction before blood," He seemed happy with that answer, so I rushed out of the room.

That had been strange. So they had taken Beatrice. And talked to here. And interrogated her. And made her lie. About our parents. They made her say she agreed about the reports that my factipn had released about our parents. I knew she was lying. She had to be.

Hours later, during free time, I walked over to the place where the big laptops were stored. I logged on using the password and login I had found for Jeanine. I felt... bad for taking my faction reps login, but I had to. Even if I was caught and left factionless.

Logged in, I navigated to the files called 'private: simulation.' It looked promising. I opened it up, no password needed, I guessed getting in was a bigger feat that I thought!

What I saw shocked the wits out of me. I saw she was trying to develop long-range transmitters, by she, I mean Jeanine. This file led me to another, which had all the details of all the Dauntless, then to an email from, 'Max.' I opened it. He was a Dauntless leader. My mouth dropped open.

I read on. What I found out made me scared, and angry. The Erudite were using the Dauntless, using them as an army. My sister! I needed to help them. But to help I needed information. Lots of information.

The email read;

Jeanine,

The power you offer us in return for an army is amazing. You have no idea how much all us Dauntless leaders are excited. But... you said before something about it not working on Divergents. Well... I believe I can help you on that. I believe on girl, Tris Prior, is divergent. She has shown amazing skill and talent, also control over the fear simulations, leading to our belief of her divergence. We will inject them all as soon as we recive the serum.

I gasped! So they were using them, and the Dauntless leaders were helping, for power and money! And Beatrice 'Tris,' Divergent? I needed to research Divergents.

I opened a file named, 'Diverhent,' looked promising. Inside was details of all known Divergents, all of whom were dead. Divergent is a dangerous thing to be, gets you killed. By Jeanine. I'm guessing quite a brutal death then? Divergent is when you have an aplitude for two or more factions.

I logged off, I needed to escape...
