**********Chapter 1**********

The Start

It was scary. The change, the way Beatrice had looked at me when I had chosen Erudite, even though she chose Dauntless. The way my father hadn't even been able to look me in the eye, my mothers forlorn face. I felt so bad. But there was no turning back now.

We arrived at the Erudite head quarters by bus, and we were told to queue up in alphabetical order, so I was somewhere near the middle.

My name was called, and I was taken in to a room and given an IQ test. Then, when everyone had finished, some were booted out, as their IQ's weren't high enough. Most of them were Erudite born.

Only one person bothered to talk to me that first day. He was called Adam, a Candor transfer. He seemed nice, and he told me I was nice as well, which I took as a compliment as he was a Candor transfer. I couldn't help but be Abnegation at some points, like when Adam moaned about still being hungry I gave him my food. If that is a bad thing then... I don't know.

Then the transfers and Erudite born were split up. I wondered if Beatrice had died yet. I knew the Dauntless did absurd things like jump off trains and freakishly high buildings... but Beatrice was so small, so fragile, I doubted she would make it to the end of the day.

The Erudite leader, Jeanine, came and gave us a speech about, knowlage is power, and, all Abnegations are freaks who don't deserve anything as they are staeling food and other vital supplies, and feeding it to people not worthy of a faction, the factionless. I almost got angry, but I contained myself, I didn't want to be factionless on day 1!

We had a male professor. As our initation, we had to conduct some research and produce complex results, to test our cleverness and our understanding. We had a few days to plan the research, then longer to conduct the research. I stared down at my blank sheet and I wondered why I wasn't in Abenegation, eating the same old dinner and performing 30 days of community service. But I couldn't change my choice now. One choice can transform your life forever.
