007: Sofira
"Who the hell are you?" An unfamiliar voice with a slightly familiar face demands.
"Who are you?" I counter.
"Quinten, or Libra, if you're as weird as everyone else here."
"I'm Sofira. I guess I'm your sister. And no, definitely not."
"Hey!" Jae and some other unfamiliar faces cry out in offense but I merely shrug.
"I didn't know I had a sister."
"I didn't know I had a brother until two days ago, so you're not alone."
"...I'd rather be alone," he growls.
"Sorry?" I say after an awkward pause. Maybe that was the wrong thing to say, but I've never related to a statement more.
"How are you my sister though?"
Jae decides to butt in with a smirk. "So you see, when mommy and daddy love each other very much―"
"Shut up, Jae," all of us say at the same time before bursting into laughter.
He scowls. "That better not be a regular occurrence."
"As long as you giving us the sex talk is not a regular occurrence, you should be fine," the other girl in the room says with an eye roll.
"Still, how are you my sister?" Quinten pressed, paying no mind to the interaction. "My parents never mentioned―"
"It's been buried by all the fake news, but I think our mom had an affair, and your dad forced her to give me up for adoption because he didn't want to keep a child that wasn't fully his. Your dad sounds great, by the way."
"You're lying... I know my parents well enough to say that they'd never do that."
"How would you explain me then?"
"You're A.I.? I don't know, but your story―"
"Sofira is actually right," a new voice enters the room.
"And who the heck are you?" Quinten demands.
"I'm your heckin' mentor. One out of the four, at least. May I speak with you, Sofira?" Lewis asks.
"You sure don't act like it though," the unnamed boy says under his breath.
"I heard that, Mateo. Go eat your brussels sprouts."
"Loser," the girl who I now know by Celestia comments.
"Sofira?" He decides to ignore them and beckons me towards him instead. I follow him out the door.
After a while of no one talking during our walk, I decide to break the silence. "So... this Awakening business... how does this work?" I ask curiously. I'm still a little hesitant of trusting everyone completely. After all, what kind of weirdos would tell me my magical powers are normal?
"Well, you're already halfway there. The awakening process starts when you turn 18."
"Okay, so what do I have to do to complete it?" I can't believe I'm even fancying this idea. An Awakening. As if I haven't already been born.
"You have to kill someone," Lewis deadpans.
It turns so silent you can hear a pin drop. "You're kidding."
Suddenly, his face lights up as he bursts with laughter. "Of course I'm kidding. Killing someone would be the exact opposite of what we want you to do. The final step is simply just accepting it. You have to fully embrace this part of your identity and everything that comes with it. Things will come naturally to you then."
