009: Sofira

As we arrive at the scene of the attack, I stay towards the back to try to look for my team members while Sebastian and Ronan run to disarm the agents. They're outnumbered, but what Ronan and Sebastian don't have in people, they have in skills.

I can only watch beside a van, slightly mesmerized, as they approach their opponents. Ronan attacks his first victim, first kicking a gun out of the man's hand before delivering a blow to his jaw, knocking him out before he hits the ground.

Sebastian, equally as efficient, punches his victim's temple, dizzying him, before knocking him out with another sucker punch that'll make any boxer cry.

Turning back to Ronan, I see him drag his second opponent down by the back of his shirt collar onto the cement and then slam his foot onto his chest, effectively knocking the wind out of him and keeping him on the ground. I wince.

Sebastian twists his second opponent's arm, forces her into an uncomfortable backbend, and kicks her towards Ronan, who knocks her off her feet. After landing hard on her head, she doesn't get up. What a power duo.

A girl is already on the floor bleeding out from a gunshot wound, unmoving.

Suddenly, I feel a yank from behind me and before I know it, I'm pulled into a chokehold. "Everybody freeze!" A feminine voice commands as a gun is shoved against my head. The unknown woman pushes me into the middle of the scene. Sebastian and Ronan freeze, only ten feet away. Eyes wide, my mind is racing, trying to figure out how to get out of a chokehold without getting shot. It's a wonder that all this fighting hasn't attracted a crowd of people.

Taking a chance of luck and with a fast-beating heart, I slam my head back into the girl's nose with enough surprise for her to grunt and drop the gun. I then turn around and deliver a kick, knocking her and myself onto our backs. But she's quick, already off the floor and reaching for the gun again. Luckily for me, I'm closer so I roll over to grab it and point it up at her even though I have no idea how to handle a gun. I expect her to freeze but instead, she launches herself at the gun and in a panic, I whack her; her head sways side-to-side as I continue pistol-whipping her because I don't know what else to do. Her face is scrunched up in anguish as blood spurts out of her nose after the repeated assaults.

Ronan, who managed to unfreeze while I didn't notice, finally decides to lend a hand. He roughly grabs her by her shoulders and forcefully slams her to the ground. Finally, she's too dazed to get up. She stays on the ground in a heap and groans.

Once the action is over, Celestia, Mateo, Jae, and Quinten roll out of the car on the other side and look around in astonishment, much like myself.

"Where did you learn to fight?" Celestia asks, amazed.

"Boxing in high school back at home, but everything you just saw was pure instinct and filled with adrenaline. I have no idea what just happened," I say, shaking my head for no apparent reason.

"That was impressive," Ronan nods. "For a beginner," he adds snidely.

"Me? Have you seen yourselves? You guys are ruthless!" I exclaim in disbelief with wide eyes, purposely ignoring his comment.

"We don't aim to kill, we aim to severely injure," Ronan says proudly.

"I feel like one day that's going to bite you in the butt," Quinten says behind Mateo.

"We'll deal with it when we get there."

"Better hope we don't," Mateo sings, a little too cheerfully if you ask me.

"Let's get back. That's enough adventure for tonight," Sebastian says warily. All of us nod in agreement.
