I eventually got to the Avengers, who had been answering questions when the horn sounded. Steve stood up when I arrived.
"Percy, what's happening?"
"Monster attack. None of your weapons are ready, so weapon shed it is!"
I ran towards the shed, and the avengers soon followed. Once there, I tossed a shield at Cap, who caught it easily and gave it a couple of practice swings. I began to look for some guns, but I could only find two.
"Do any of you lot know how to wield swords? Bows? Daggers?" Nat nodded at daggers and I threw her a pair. Rocket and Rhodey got the guns.
"Err... What should I do, guys? Is this a code green?" Asked Bruce, pacing around.
"No. You can help with the Apollo cabin and healing." I said.
"Be ready for a code green though." Cap added in.
We ran to the south border, where the campers were preparing for an attack. Bruce ran off to help the Apollo cabin and we went to where Thalia, Nico and Piper where standing. They quickly filled us in on what was happening and what the attack plan was.
"Oi, Kelp-head, you know none of us can see what we're fighting." Said Rocket while he looked up at us.
Piper looked at the Raccoon in surprise,"You can't see through the mist? Right then. Percy, say this: I, your name here, ask the gods to let people's names here see through the mist. Go."
"Err... I, Perseus Jackson, ask the gods to let James Rhodes, Natasha Romanoff, Bruce Banner and Rocket Raccon see through the mist."
A few seconds later and the Avengers blinked suddenly, trying to get used to what they could now see. I noticed Bruce doing the same while he carried around items for the Apollo cabin. We walked over to the front line, where the campers were waiting for the monsters to attack. However, when we got there, we couldn't see any.
"What's happening?"
"We don't know. The border showed signs of there being monsters, but we can't see them. It's not mist either, we checked." Said Piper as she fiddled with her dagger.
Suddenly, a boom was heard and a golden ring spread out across the barrier, starting from where the boom happened. Something was attacking the border.
"We are the Drykani."
Six creatures appeared from thin air, snarling and growling as they attacked the barrier. From what I could see, they were about the size of a dog and had the body of a cheetah. A mane of fire covered their necks and backs, sparks flying as they attacked the border. Their hearts, however, were on the outside of their chests, beating furiously as black blood flowed through it.
"I've never heard of the Drykani before. What are they?" Asked Thalia as the campers raised their weapons. Lighting sparked from Thor's axe.
Slowly, cracks started to spiderweb across the barrier.
What the?
I quickly looked over at Thalia's tree, but it looked as healthy as ever. Murmurs started to form.
They shouldn't be able to break it...
The barrier shattered.
The Drykani were on us before we even knew what was happening. Claws and teeth slashed at us, the fire burned at us. My sword sang as I battled against a Drykani with sea green eyes. It dodged and blocked every slash I made and then retaliated with slashes even faster then mine.
Before I knew it, I was fighting a girl, sea green eyes glaring at me in concentration. We exchanged blows for blows, but I was unable to get a hit in, while she got plenty.
Breaths got caught in my throat as I parried blow after blow. Cuts littered my body, but I didn't pay them any heed. I called some of the water in the lake towards me, hoping to heal from it, but the girl stuck her hand as it flew towards us.
I jumped back as acid hit where I had stood.
Oh crap...
I jumped back again as the Drykani flung even more acid at me. Suddenly, she hit my leg and I collapsed, screaming out as the acid dissolved into my body.
I crawled back as she stalked me, now back in her animal form. Riptide had long since clattered to the floor, but it would be to late by the time it arrived in my pocket.
The monster pounced, trapping me in its claws. Sea green eyes stared down at me.
I closed my eyes, waiting for the death blow to come.
But it never came.
I opened my eyes to see Erin staring down at me, a cool looking axe in her hand. Black dust floated to the ground around us.
She smirked, "You good?"
"Yep. All good." I tried to stand up, but the moment I put pressure on my leg I yelped and fell down.
"You're clearly not good. Let's get you to the infirmary." She hoisted me up and we hobbled to the infirmary, where I could see Bruce working.
Just before we arrived, something barged into us and we were thrown to the floor. My leg screamed when I landed and I nearly blacked out.
In front of us stood a Drykani with silver eyes. The monster charged at me before getting thrown to the side by Erin. The two fought as I struggled to get up, my leg screaming as I tried to put some of my weight on it.
The Drykani shifted into a boy as I began to fight him as well. His bow sang as arrows flew at us, most of them either hitting their mark or being blocked by our weapons.
We fought on, my leg threatening to give out with every step I took. My sword arm ached with every arrow I blocked. Erin was suddenly thrown to side, a large gash on her forehead. She didn't get up.
I charged at the monster, sword raised. We fought, him having to use his bow as I was too close for arrows to work. He suddenly twisted around and I became trapped between the bow and his arm.
I felt him smirk behind me just as the girl with the sea green eyes appeared from thin air.
What the... Didn't Erin kill her?
The monster stabbed me.
I fell to the floor as she pulled the blade out, the coppery smell of blood filling the air.
I stared at the two monsters as they shifted back into their animal forms and roared, sending some unknown message to rest of the Drykani.
I blacked out with the hazy view of someone running towards me.
