Placing food on the table, you took a deep breath in hopes of having somewhat of a normal evening. "Derek, dinner's ready." you called. While waiting, you looked over at Derek's dog, Clooney, and you didn't know if he was more interested in you or the food. You and Derek had been strained for the past few months now, and it was starting to show. You jumped as you heard footsteps coming from the staircase.

"Sorry about that, baby doll. I had to review a recent case." he apologized. *At least I won't have to heat up his food.* you thought as you went to sit down at the table. During dinner, you and Derek were silent for a majority of the time. The silence was eventually broken by you when you couldn't control your rampid thoughts anymore.

"I think we need to talk." you confessed. "Baby doll, don't give me that. You know I'm tryin' to work things out." Derek rejected. "Are you? Because you're giving more of your all to your job than our relationship." you argued. "You're talkin' crazy." Derek muttered. "No I'm not, Derek! You have done nothing but work, and I'm tired of it!"you retorted not being able to control your emotions anymore. "Do you not know how important my job is anymore? Seems you forgot that." Derek argued. "You obviously don't know what I'm saying, do you? You're not putting any effort into this relationship at all!" you replied with your voice cracked. "Oh, you don't think I'm puttin' in any effort? Let me tell you somethin', Y/N-you don't know how hard it is for me-" "You don't think it's hard for me to hold down the fort every other day that you're gone? You don't think it's hard for me to put in the extra work because you won't even try? You don't think it's hard for me ever?" you exclaimed with tears of anger running down your face. "Woman, if you don't think I try, you better think again!" Derek retorted. "Well, here's a newsflash for you, Derek-you don't! You can't just expect me to do all the work it requires!" you yelled. "YOU THINK I DON'T TRY TO PUT IN ANY WORK?!? I WORK AND FIGHT FOR IT EVERY DAMN DAY!" Derek snarled. "It doesn't seem like that anymore." you whispered. Derek got up and left the room in anger.

You sat there and let the tears roll down your cheeks as you tried to process what happened. At this point, it looked like you were headed for a breakup. You didn't want to think this, but an ultimatum would soon have to be put in the works.
