Valentine's Day was already here, and you and Hondo were alittle skeptical about Darryl making dinner for you. "I think we should give him a chance." you said. You were doubtful, but you never let your skepticism get the best of you. "Hon, I would've been happy makin' a reservation for the two of us. He should be focusing on his studies." Hondo interjected. "Hondo, I get that he means the world to you, but you worry about him way too much." you stated. "I don't want him goin' back to his old ways." Hondo replied. "Babe, he's lived with you for way too long. I think he's learned alot by now." you said. Hondo wrapped his arm around you. "At least I get to take you out to lunch." he joked. You just laughed.

As you were leaving a vineyard tour, Hondo decided to call Darryl. "What's good, my man?" he said as he picked up. "Uh, well, everything's takin' some time here. The food's just about done, and, uh...Uh..." Darryl paused. Hondo immediately sensed that something was up. "Are you SURE everything's okay?" he asked sternly. "Yeah. It's all good! Everything is!" Darryl answered in what seemed like panic. "I'll see ya both when you get back home." he continued briefly before hanging up. "That sounded bad." Hondo stated in worry. "He probably just lost track of time or something." you reassured as you hid your own worry. Hondo just grumbled as he continued to drive.Upon getting home, you smelled some overly burned food. Just as you were starting to think Hondo was right, you and Hondo noticed the hunched over figure in pain in the kitchen. "Darryl!" you exclaimed rushing in there. "Oh, Y/N, I'm sorry! I only wanted-" Darryl apologized but soon cried out in pain. "I'm not mad or anything. Just tell me where the injury is." you reassured as you began to help. "Darryl, what did you do?" Hondo asked trying not to let his own panic be known. "Hondo! It's clearly not the time!" you scolded as you searched for the injury. "What did you do, Darryl?" Hondo asked. There was no answer as you made a motion with your free hand. "Darryl!" Hondo nearly shouted. "Okay, you got me! I went to get a knife because some food needed to be chopped, and the next thing I know, I'm bleedin' AND in this huge crap load of pain!" Darryl finally confessed. You noticed dried blood on the bottom of his pants. "Is this where you cut yourself?" you asked. Darryl nodded. "I'm sorry I lied. I just didn't want y'all to worry about me..." he apologized once more. "It's okay." you reassured again. "Let's just get you to the hospital." Hondo murmured as he helped Darryl off the ground.
Darryl had to get 3 stitches in his arm. Because he was sedated, you knew he would be very exhausted afterwards. Hondo just grabbed takeout from one of his favorite burger joints in LA. As you got home, he helped Darryl to his room. "How is he?" you asked. "He's sleepin' like a log." Hondo answered. You sighed in relief then got the food and placed it on the coffee table. "You know, he wants it to be known he's a changed guy." you said. "I know he is. I just wanna make sure he stays on a good path." Hondo replied. "He had it hard as a child. His daddy in prison, his mama foolin' around with all the brothas here, the whole 9 yards..." he continued. "Babe, you're his hero. He only sees you as his dad. I even see it, too." you stated. Hondo blinked just to keep himself from crying. "You really mean that?" he asked. "Yeah. You're a solace for him, and no one will EVER take that away from you. Ever." you answered. Hondo kissed your head.
This was a weird Valentine's Day for sure, but you loved your husband and your foster son the same. You had the world in your hands. The complicated yet perfect world in your hands, and it was beautiful. Just beautiful.
