(A/N: This is sort of an interlude to Day Of Dread, and in this imagine, you and Hondo are just friends. If you want me to change that, just let me know in the comments.)

You were in the middle of going over some backgrounds of local musicians when you received a call from your friend, Hondo. You wondered why he'd be calling when he was always so busy with work. You answered nevertheless.

"Hello?" you spoke into the phone. All Hondo could do was release a loud sob. "Hondo, what's wrong?" you asked frantically. "Darryl was shot." Hondo finally managed to answer. You sat up in an instant. "When?" you asked with your voice filled with worry. "This mornin'." Hondo answered. "Is he going to be okay?" you asked. "I don't know." Hondo answered. "I can't lose him!" he sobbed again. "I'm on my way." you replied as you slipped your shoes on and ran out the door. Hondo had told you about Darryl afew months after you met. After that, you knew he was a good soul. You were also the first person to actually know about him wanting to adopt Darryl. Right now, all you could think about was every question going through your head. Is he going to be okay? What's his condition like now? Is there anything I can do? All the questions were going to have to wait because you had just gotten to the hospital.

You darted to the front desk and told a nurse you were a friend of Hondo's. The nurse took you to where Darryl's room was. "You have a visitor." the nurse said. You stepped forward slightly. Hondo got up out of his seat, paced toward you, and embraced you like there was no tomorrow. The nurse soon walked away.

All you could hear were breathless sobs, loud sniffles, and occasional snorts from here on out. You hugged Hondo for what seemed like an eternity. This was the first time you've ever seen him like this, and you already hated it. It, not only pained you, it also gutted you.

Hondo eventually released you from his embrace and you walked over to his mother, Mrs. Harrelson. You two shared a long embrace as well. "I hate this is how we had to meet." you said in her ear. "Don't worry about that, baby." she replied, her voice still slightly teary, but reassuring. "If you don't mind me asking, how many times was he shot?" you asked being cautious. "Twice. Once in the side, once in the leg." Mrs. Harrelson answered. "Wow." you whispered. "They were able to stop the bleeding." she continued. You couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

You suddenly heard another sob coming from Hondo. You walked over to him and embraced him again. More tears soon began to fall on the already soaked top part of your shirt. "You should sit back down." you said softly in his ear. Hondo went and sat back down by Darryl's bedside. Mrs. Harrelson just hugged him as he began sobbing even more. You walked over to her.

"If you want, I can take him home." you said. Unfortunately, Hondo heard you. "I ain't leavin'!" he stated resentfully. "Hondo, you're not in your right mind." you said firmly but calmly. "I ain't leavin'! Didn't you hear me say that?!?" Hondo snarled. You soon began to fear for your safety (not to mention your life) thinking he might lose it. "Hondo, baby, calm down." Mrs. Harrelson said trying to keep it together. Hondo stood up angrily. "I don't know how many God damn times I have to tell you!" he yelled. "Hondo, please, before you do something dangerous!" you pleaded on the verge of tears yourself. Hondo sat back down and shed more tears.

After collecting yourself, you walked back over to him. "I know you're scared, but all this stress isn't good for you." you said. "She's right, baby." Mrs. Harrelson replied in agreement. You stood up and faced her. "How long have you been here?" you asked. "Ever since I got the call." Mrs. Harrelson answered. You suddenly began to reconsider your offer. "You should probably go home." you said. "Thank you, baby, but you don't have to go through any of the trouble." she replied kindly. "Hondo is my friend, and I'd do anything for him and his family." you stated willingly. Mrs. Harrelson thought for a minute. "I'm afraid I'll leave Hondo." she said. You put a hand on her shoulder. "I'll stay with him." you vowed. "Thank you, baby!" Mrs. Harrelson replied teary again as you two hugged. "I'll be back ASAP." she stated letting you and Hondo know. As she walked out the door, you sat in the chair by Hondo.

"You hungry?" you asked rubbing his back. "No." he answered in a whisper. "Okay." you muttered. A question suddenly popped up in your head, and you knew you had to ask it right away. "How long has his biological dad been in prison?" you asked. "I don't even wanna talk about that right now." Hondo answered looking over at Darryl. You couldn't help but be sympathetic. "Okay." you muttered again. You turned and you and Hondo kept vigil over Darryl throughout the night.
