Please (Percy Jackson Series)
(Yaoi. A few years after Blood of Olympus, in which Nico confesses his feelings to Percy, but regrets doing so right after. Percy's nineteen and Nico's seventeen.)
"Nico." It started as a whisper, something lonely and small. But as moments passed, it grew louder, more urgent, and started to race after the name's owner. "Nico!"
During this time that the nineteen year old stood in a startled silent and soon found his voice, the frustrated seventeen year old had already marched halfway down the street they were on. Tears burned at his eyes, but, he promised himself, he would NOT cry. He had been holding these tears in for almost six years; a few more minutes couldn't hurt (or until he found a nice dark room to sulk in).
Just as he arrived at the corner to turn right into an alley to shadow travel the heck out of here to vent to Hazel (or, gods forbid, even Jason!) the other had caught up with him.
"Nico, stop." He was careful not to grab or touch the pale boy, because, after all these years, he knew that the other was very touchy. Now he knew why. But Nico wouldn't look at him and continued to turn into the alley, the dark. "Please, just...just wait."
The tone is what stopped him, the utter concern in his voice, making him glanced back over his shoulder at the other. Worry was etched in his features, traced with stunned wonder. Nico had to avoid the sea-green eyes; he would have broken down then and there.
"Percy...I-I, I just can't..." His voice reached out and flared and had backed down again. "Please. Later."
"No." Nico's gaze shot back up to his face. His eyes, beautiful, were determined. "No. We have to talk about this. Right now."
"But-"
"Now."
Nico glanced down the alley. Lined with stray garbage cans and littered with trash, there was hardly any light. Perfect. Maybe if he was quick enough...
As he took off running, dodging metal cans and a few stray cats, Nico raced to the nearest shadow of a building stretched toward the other end of the alleyway. He heard Percy (don't think his name, don't even think of him) behind him, a few seconds behind from the surprise getaway.
Just a few more feet...
His foot, curse the Fates, had caught a piece of heavy, broken cement, and he went down head first into a patch of hard pavement. Pain, loud and obnoxious, exploded in his mind and face and fireworks lit up behind his eyes, blotting his vision. While trying to get up for a breath of fresh air to replace the garbage in his lungs, something big and heavy collided with him, sending him on the ground again.
There was a small skirmish as he struggled against Percy's grip, but he ended up pinned against a brick wall. His breathe was ragged, and when he looked up at Percy, his breathe hitched.
Dark hair swept in front of sea-green eyes set with determination, Percy towered over him, shadowing him. He quickly looked down again.
The grip on his shoulder tightened slightly. The voice was stern but gentle. "Talk."
"...I can't."
"Why?"
"I...I just can't."
He caught Nico's dark eye and gave an encouraging look. "Yes, you can."
He looked back down again and took a breath. For a moment, Percy thought he wouldn't speak at all but he started in a shaky voice. "I...I trusted you. To take care of her...Bianca." He winced as if it still hurt to say the name, but continued. "You promised. And I believed you. How could I not? You were perfect: fighting monsters, saving us from that manticore, taking us to a place where that stupid card game, Mythomagic, became real."
Nico lifted his head and looked Percy straight in the eye, his voice full of distain. He spat the words. "You were my hero. My hero! Then she was killed. Gone! Just like that! And you...I didn't know what to do..."
His eyes, empty and hopeless, stared at the ground.
"Then those skeletons came and everything just...I had to get away. And I did. I stumbled upon Camp Jupiter, after that trip through the Labyrinth, and that's when I decided that I was going to do something about it. I wasn't going to let my fate be decided for me, I wanted to be able to make some decision without the help of the gods."
A lone crack of thunder belted across the sky. There was a pause.
Then "But I guess that's not possible, is it? I wanted you. I wanted you, but you had Annabeth. And, I just had to get away."
Nico glanced up, pecking at Percy's expression. It was thoughtful, those eyes soft and comforting compared to the torrent of emotions swirling inside him. If Nico himself wasn't so controlled, then who knows which of these buildings might have collapsed from his sheer embarrassment.
He ducked his head again. "I understand if you don't want to talk to me again. Who would want to in the first place, I'm just a freak-"
...
Nico's train of thought stopped. What? Why couldn't he talk? Something was on his mouth.
His eyes blinked open (When were they closed?) and he noticed Percy, literally, right there. Kissing him. Kissing Nico.
What?
