Chapter 1- She's Unprofessional (Connor's Perspective)

It was how it always was at Meyers Motors. Walking into the building I've known for years now, seeing people walk back and forth, hearing the phones buzzing with any number of important people, the sweet sound of keyboards clicking and the hushed greetings to be expected in the lobby.

"How was your lunch, Mr. Meyers?" One of the few female workers in the building greeted me. She took her place in the elevator I always used to ride up to the fifteenth floor where my office was.

"Good." I replied absentmindedly. I had hardly ever seen this woman who, judging by the floor button she pressed, apparently worked on the sixth floor. Like most other people, however, she recognized my power and sanctified the shoes I walked in. When the doors opened to reveal her stop, the woman scurried out to do whatever job she was in charge of and I was happy to be departed from her presence.

After the elevator opened up to my floor, I took a sip of my coffee, ready to work for the rest of the afternoon. The men who worked on my floor didn't spend time greeting me like those in other departments, which I preferred since it wasted too much time. They knew to get out of my way and work on whatever they were to do, it made for what I truly believed was the most efficient floor in the company and that's the way it was going to stay.

I finally sat down looking over what Adam, my best friend and closest advisor, had sent to my email to look over for the Tokyo merger in a few months. I was in my element, calmed with the orderly chaos that was my job. With how efficient my work habit had become, I was confident I'd be completely ready for the meeting in only five weeks, four weeks if I worked overtime. Once I proved to Jonathan that I could successfully pull off something this major, he'd finally retire happily and I'd finally be the CEO.

Jonathan, my father and boss, was in his 60's now with salt-and-pepper hair and an aura that demanded respect from all of those he came in contact with. Though this company was founded by his father, Jonathan took it from the tiny business it once was and flipped it into a multi-million dollar company that, once this merger goes the way I wanted it to, would be worth more money than ever.

There was a soft knock at my door before Samantha, my personal assistant, walked in with a wicked smile on her face. "I have some news for you, Connor!" She was the only person I allowed to walk in without so much of a knock, probably due to our 'coworkers with benefits' status. Probably not the most ethical decisions on my part, but that would remain the extent of that relationship.

Sam generally wore her thick red hair pulled back into a tight ponytail that helped maintain her professional aura. Though lacking in both hips and height she had a decent chest that she kept tucked away behind tight button up blouse. Her personality was that of a high school gossip. It was no secret to anyone that I used her to relieve some of the stress of my job, but where was the shame in that? She enjoyed it, and I allowed her to continue to work for me despite the way she annoyingly gossiped throughout the department all the time. A win-win situation if you asked me.

"I only have time for good news or news that can easily be fixed." I paid her no mind, knowing how she was.

"Never mind then." She turned on her heel and began to walk out.

Even when I tried to tell myself this red head wasn't completely annoying she always seemed to prove me wrong, "Sam," I warned, most of my attention still on my computer and what I was typing.

"Well," She spun around and stood above me from across my desk, "rumor has it that we are getting a new employee," She paused, waiting for me to give her my full attention, which did not happen. "It's going to be a girl." Sam said, and although it was usually male in my specific line of work it wasn't all that noteworthy.
