3rd POV
The six have no clue as to what to do, as they had stumble upon a man with a jeep just a moment ago. The doors had automatically opened, but none of them had made a move. Somehow as if he noticed their hesitation, the mysterious man spoke up once more.
"Don't just stand there. In you go." He advised. It was then Dani had made the first move and Tim was quick to protest and grabbed her arm, stopping her from getting in the vehicle.
"Dani, what are you doing?"
"I'm getting in." Dani simply answered him, pulling her arm back, not too harshly, and climbed into the back of the Jeep.
"No. No. This is--How you know if we can trust him?" Bethany asked her.
"Its either the Jeep or the hippos? Take your pick?" Dani raised her eyebrow at her. At the mention of hippos, Bethany widens her eyes and didn't hesitate to run over and climb into the jeep.
"Okay, jeep it is." Was all she said, not wanting to get attacked by a hippo again.
"Then, let's go!" Tim, Spencer, Fridge, and Martha quickly climbed in the jeep also. Spencer sat in the passenger seat, while Martha, Bethany, and Fridge sat in the middle row behind him, and lastly, Dani and Tim sat in the back row behind them. With that, the man pushed the pedal and the jeep sped off, away from the hippos.
"Dr. Bravestone. Famed archaeologist and international explorer. Known across the seven continents for your courageous exploits." The man said as he drove.
"Is there a seatbelt?" Spencer nervously asked, trying to look for a said seatbelt.
"I can't tell you what an honor it is to finally meet you. And I'm not embarrassed to say you're more dashing in person."
"Um...Thanks." Spencer said.
"Who are you?" Martha asked.
"Nigel Billingsly, at your service, Ruby Roundhouse, killer of men." The man, Nigel, introduced himself before acknowledging her avatar name.
"Welcome to Jumanji. I've been so anxious for your arrival. As you know, Jumanji is in grave danger. We're counting on the six of you to lift the curse." Nigel adds, which raised looks of confusion and concern from the six players.
"Curse?"
"What curse?"
"Um, excuse me? Have you seen my phone anywhere?" Bethany asked. Dani almost rolled her eyes, but asked anyways while suppressing the urge to roll her eyes.
"What do you mean, 'In grave danger,' Mr. Billingsly." Dani asked him from her seat. Nigel glances at them from the mirror and eagerly spoke up.
"Professor Sheldon Oberon and Dr. Victoria Stone. Welcome to Jumanji. Nigel Billingsly at your service. I've been so anxious for your arrivals." Nigel said.
Bethany and Dani, for the first time, exchange strange and confused looks at one another. The rest of the players were confused as well as to why Nigel had repeated what he had said before.
"What's with this?" Bethany whispers.
"For once, I kinda agree with her." Dani adds, which earned her a narrowed look.
"What do you mean by 'kinda'?" Bethany questions.
"I think he's an NPC." Spencer realized, thankfully interrupting them before things get dramatic.
"A what? English, please." Bethany exclaimed.
"A non-player character. He's part of the game." Spencer explained.
"So you're saying that anytime we ask him questions, he'll be repeating what he had said?" Tim asks him.
"Basically, yes. He only has his programmed series of responses." Spencer answered. Fridge nods in understanding a bit.
"Got it. It's all clear now." Fridge said.
"Franklin 'Mouse' Finbar. Welcome to Jumanji." Nigel says.
"It's Moose. It's not Mouse." Fridge corrects him...Oh that's where he's wrong.
"No, good sir. I'm quite sure it's Mouse." Nigel tells him.
"Mouse?"
"A nickname given for your diminutive stature and adorable manner. I knew you'd be here." Dani, Martha, and Bethany had suppressed the urge to not smile or laugh at this information when Nigel tells him this.
"Dr. Bravestone doesn't go anywhere without his trusty sidekick." Nigel adds. Dani couldn't hold it much longer and let out a snicker. Tim had smirked at this also.
"Sidekick?" Fridge asked in disbelief, before glaring at Dani from over his shoulder.
"Ever since Dr. Bravestone rescued you from the clutches of a warlord in the jungles of Peru, you've never left his side." Nigel adds on.
Sounds pretty ironic. Dani thought to herself.
"Right."
"So what does this curse have to do with us exactly?" Tim asked Nigel.
"Ah. Capt. William Sinclair. Welcome to Jumanji. Nigel Billingsly at your service. I've been anxious for you arrival also. And may I say, congratulations on your engagement with Dr. Stone, Captain Sinclair." Nigel says. The six have widen their eyes at the news and the four turned their heads to the said 'engaged couple'. Dani's face heating up while Tim's eyes widen in shock. Both of them begin to protest.
"What!?" They exclaimed simultaneously.
"Engaged?"
"I don't think you understand Nigel, but we're not even together." Dani said to him.
"That's not what the ring on your finger say, Dr. Stone." Nigel tells her.
"Ring? What ring--?" Dani paused when the looked at her left finger. On her finger was a beautiful ring. It was beautiful to say at least. It was a 14k rose gold with a small round diamond on it as it glistens in the lights rays. Dani has no idea whether she should be a bit giddy or freaked out more. She's only 17 for Christ sake! She has school to focus on!
"So uh...How did this happen?" Tim asks Nigel. Clearly there was more to it on background information between his avatar and Dani's as well.
"Oh, it's quite romantic actually! It all started when you rescued Dr. Stone from those poachers in the depths of Africa. And when you first laid eyes on her, it was love at first sight. Since then, the two of you work side by side. Dr. Stone, you were quite feisty when you first met him, but then love blossomed between you two when you nursed Capt. Sinclair to health after he faced near death from a bullet that was supposedly meant for you. No one knows who shot that bullet, but to this day, if it weren't for that near death experience in Cairo, you would've confessed your love for one another. And a little over a year after that, Capt. Sinclair, you found the courage to finally propose to her in India. But unfortunately, with this curse going on in Jumanji, you two have postponed your wedding." Nigel tells the two.
"Can we go back to the curse thing?" Spencer interrupts.
"It's all documented in the letter I sent you, Dr. Bravestone. Perhaps you should read it aloud." Nigel instructs him.
"I don't have a let--" Spencer was about to finish when suddenly an envelope appeared out of nowhere and in his hand. The players were perplexed at the sight of the letter's sudden appearance.
"Whoa."
"Where the hell did that come from?"
Spencer didn't say anything, but followed Nigel's instructions. He opened the envelope and pulled out a letter and looked over it.
"Right, uh...
'Dr. Bravestone, I am writing to you regarding the desperate situation in Jumanji. We need your help at once.'" Spencer reads, then suddenly they all transported to what seemed like a flashback scene.
"Whoa...Guys?"
"Holy crap."
"What's happening?"
"What the hell is going on?"
"Spencer, care to tell us what's happening right now?"
"I think it's a cut scene. A lot of games have them. It's like a little movie to tell you the back-story." Spencer had answered them as they all looked around from inside the jeep. There were men around them, but none of them seemed to notice the players as they continue walking forward. Meanwhile, Nigel narrates the story of how this place became cursed.
-Begin Flashback-
'My name is Nigel Billingsly, Jumanji field guide, I was hired by your former partner, now nemesis, Professor Russel Van Pelt to lead a fateful expedition.'
The man, Van Pelt, had stepped out of his jeep and looked at a statue in front of him. It was a statue of an elephant, and it was covered in vines.
'You see, Professor Van Pelt had come in search of the fabled Jaguar Shrine, resting place of the sacred jewel of Jumanji.'
Nigel was there also, and had spotted a stature of what seemed to look like an Ox, than another statue but of a hippo.
'As you know better than anyone, the jewel was his great obsession. And after years of research, he believed that he had discovered its whereabouts.'
Van Pelt, Nigel, and their expedition group have finally found the Jaguar Shrine statue.
"Could it be? Have I finally found it?" Van Pelt was in awe of the sight in front of him.
'Van Pelt told me that he wanted to find the jewel in order to document it in his writings.'
Van Pelt climbed up the statue and finally made it to the top where a green jewel was resting.
"It's real!" Van Pelt said.
'What I did not know was that he intended to take the jewel for himself.'
Reaching for his knife, Van Pelt stabbed through the gap that kept the sacred jewel in place and once it was loose, he grabbed the jewel, unleashing the power from within the jewel.
"I found it. I FOUND IT!" Van Pelt hollers, followed by the bright sky darkening by the clouds and a thunderstorm began to erupt.
'Legend tells that the Jaguar watches over Jumanji and anyone who dares to blind him, will be consumed by a dark power.'
Something changed in Van Pelt when he got back to his group. Then his left eye changed from dark to white shade, seeming to look as if he has a blind eye. Then small critters of snakes, rats, spiders, scorpions have gathered around the group, mainly Van Pelt. It's possible that it was the cause of the power of the sacred jewel that affected the animals around them. Then Van Pelt held out his arm that was holding the jewel, and a vulture flew up to him and landed on his arm.
'Van Pelt assumed dominion over all of Jumanji's creatures, possessing them, controlling them, and a terrible curse befell this once-placid land.'
Nigel watched as Van Pelt became obsessed with the jewel in his hand and knows that he needs to do something.
'I begged him to put it back, but once he had it in his grasp, he could never let it go. So I waited till they slept that night, and I made my move.'
Once he knew that everyone, including Van Pelt, were asleep, Nigel quietly snuck over and headed towards Van Pelt. He slowly reached over to grab the jewel that was tightly held in Van Pelt's grasp. He used one hand to loosen the grip, while the other reached over to grab the jewel. He abruptly stops for a moment when he felt Van Pelt snored and moved a bit.
Nigel waited for a moment and then he successfully grabbed the jewel from the clutches of Van Pelt. Unfortunately, the small victory didn't last long, as the vulture was awake the whole time and let out a shriek, alarming Van Pelt and the rest of the group awake. Nigel was quick to run off with the jewel and into the jungle, dodging the bullets being shot by Van Pelt, and disappeared from their sight. Van Pelt let out a sneer and barked out orders.
"Bring me that jewel! And slaughter anyone who tries to stop you."
-Flashback Over-
"Right, then. Here you go." Nigel says, handing the jewel, that came out of nowhere, over to Spencer, who was quite shocked once again. The rest of the players were shocked as well.
