Rocky paced the floor as Lucinda's fingertips tapped furiously on the keyboard of her laptop. So far, she'd come up with nothing as far as Pru was concerned. Finally, she shook her head.
"I got nothing. If anyone is looking for her, they're being very quiet about it."
Rocky grumbled to herself as the email alert went off on her phone. She sighed as she opened it and started reading. Panic and fury warred with each other as her eyes took in the message. She jumped up and grabbed Lucinda by the arm, shouting for Evie as she did.
"Evie! Call Pru and tell her to get herself and Jessie out of the house, now! Tell her to hide in the woods until we get there!"
Evie came running out of the kitchen with Russ and Jacob right behind her. "What's going on?"
Rocky shook her head as she ran for the front door. "No time to explain. They're in danger! Call her!"
Rod pulled his phone from his pocket. "I'll call the guys."
Rocky pointed at him and shook her head. "No! Me and Luce will handle it. Just call Pru!"
When they got into Rocky's Mustang, Lucinda looked at her with wide eyes. "What's going on, Rock?"
Rocky shook her head as she willed the tears back. "I just got a tentative job offer. Apparently, Prudence Langdon has been stepping on some important toes in Lodi. This job goes into effect if the current shooter is unsuccessful."
She drove as she let her words sink in, silently praying to whatever God was listening that they'd get there in time. Lucinda cursed as she turned scared eyes to Rocky. "Who?"
Rocky shook her head as she turned onto Jessie's road. "Henry Lin."

When they reached Jessie's house, Rocky and Lucinda both armed themselves before getting out of the car. They didn't see a vehicle but that didn't mean someone hadn't cut through the woods at the back of the house.
Rocky tried to ignore the fresh bullet holes that peppered the front of the house, gouging fresh holes into the weathered wood. She nodded to Lucinda and they approached the front door.
Rocky forced herself to bank down the panic she could feel bubbling up against her spine as she slowly pushed the front door open and swept the living room for signs of an intruder.
She could hear someone sobbing and lowered her gun as she was pretty sure nobody was there that shouldn't be. She could hear motorcycles getting closer and shook her head as she stepped farther into the room. She nodded when Lucinda pointed out bloody handprints on the wall.
"Pru? Jessie?"
"In Jessie's room! She's been shot!"
Her feet moved then, carrying her down the hall in seconds, with Lucinda right behind her. When she reached the bedroom, she saw Jessie slumped against the wall on the floor, her hands clutching her stomach as Pru pressed on her side.
Jessie was deathly pale as Pru sobbed quietly, shaking her head. "She jumped in front of me. She... this wasn't meant for her!"
Rocky nodded as she heard male voices coming from the living room. She knelt beside Jessie and pasted Pru on the shoulder. "I know, and believe me, someone is going to pay, but right now I need to know how bad it is, okay?"
Pru nodded before sitting back slightly to let Rocky have room to check Jessie out. She saw two bullet wounds, one through and through to her side and another to her stomach.
Rocky looked up at Lucinda. "Call 911."
Jessie shook her head. "No! No doctors. Too many questions."
Rocky heard someone curse and looked back to see Jax holding an obviously upset Chibs back as Happy and Opie strode into the room to Rocky's side. Rocky turned back to Jessie and shook her head as Lucinda quickly called emergency.
"Baby girl, they're just going to have ask questions. I can't fix this and I'm betting you don't have a handy spell for gunshot wounds."
Jessie sighed and let her eyes close as she nodded wearily. She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked to see Happy beside her. He turned behind him. "Chibs! Snap the fuck out of it, man. Come look at her."
She heard movement then Chibs was kneeling beside Jessie, gently moving her hands so he could see. He took a ragged breath and shook his head.
"Ah, mo aon, what have ye done?" He looked at Rocky and she could have sworn he had tears in his eyes. "I cannae fix this, lass. Keep pressure on it until they get here."
Rocky nodded. "You guys clear out. This hasn't got anything to do with you but the cops will waste precious time thinking it does. Meet us at the hospital in a bit."
Chibs sniffed then nodded before leaning down to kids Jessie softly on the lips. He stood up and motioned for all of the guys to follow him as they could hear sirens in the distance.
Jessie opened her eyes and watched as he walked away, and Rocky caught her breath at the look on Jessie's face. "M 'anam." She turned her head slowly and nodded to Rocky. "Take care of him when I'm gone."
Rocky shook her head as she heard first responders running down the hall. "Fuck that, sis. You can take care of him yourself. Help is here now."
Jessie let her eyes close again as the EMTs came in and took over.
