Hermione's P.O.V
This was it, she was off to Hogwarts! She was so excited to learn all about magic, she had even tried out a few spells. And most of all, she was looking forward to meeting new friends.

Hermione was looking around the different compartments to look for Neville's toad, when she saw a boy with platinum blonde hair sitting in a compartment on his own. He looked sad, so she decided to say hello. "Hello, i'm Hermione Granger, what's your name?" she asked.
"Hi, i'm Draco Malfoy, nice to meet you"
"Nice to meet you too. Hey, why are you sitting here all alone?" she wondered why he wasn't sitting with other people like everyone else.
"Because everyone says my dad's a death eater and they hate me"she had read about death eaters. They scared her, but that didn't mean Draco was one too. She could see tears welling up in his eyes as he said this, so she put a comforting hand on his shoulder
"It's okay. I don't hate you. Can we be friends?"
"Yeah, i'd like that"

They spent a while talking, when they came to the subject of the houses. "You better be in Slytherin, that's where i'm going!" Draco said excitedly.
"I'd like to be in Slytherin, but Ravenclaw sounds good too"
"Yeah, you're really smart, you'd do amazing in Ravenclaw" Just then, two boys walked in, one had flaming red hair and the other had black hair and glasses.
"Who'd want to be in Slytherin. That's where all the evil wizards go. I'm going to be in Gryffindor; where dwell the brave at heart! Like my whole family" the red headed boy said. At this, Draco looked ashamed
"Not all Slytherins are evil, I might be in Slytherin, does that make me evil?" she retorted.
"But you can't be in Slytherin, you're a mudblood!" that red headed boy, Ron, didn't seem very nice.
"Come on Draco, let's find another compartment!" she huffed. As they left, Ron tried to trip them, and she stomped on his foot. He cried out in pain, and Hermione smirked.

When they got into the empty compartment, Hermione asked Draco something "Draco, they called me a 'mudblood' what's that?"
"Its a slang word for muggleborn, it means your parents are muggles and you have dirty blood. Father says it a lot, but I don't think it's very nice"
"He said I can't be in Slytherin because of it. Does it make a difference, being muggle born?" she asked hesitantly
"No, it doesn't" he said with a warming smile.
