Draco's P.O.V.
It was time to go back home for the summer, and he was nervous. He had been owling his mother, but he had only told her a little about Hermione. He still hadn't told her about what happened to them in detention. She seemed happy that he had made a close friend though. She told him that his father wouldn't be home for the first two weeks of the summer because he had a mission with the Dark Lord.

Hermione had asked about his parents a few times, and he always told her the truth. She was the one person he could rely on. She knew the truth about his father being a follower of the Dark Lord.

Draco hated how his father acted. He would hit him whenever he asked a question, or make any small mistake. He would hit his mother whenever she tried to help him. Draco couldn't help but feel responsible for his mother being hurt all the time. It was his fault because he just couldn't do anything right. Nothing was ever good enough, and his mother tried to defend him, try to stop his father hitting him, but he just targeted her. It was no use.

Draco and Hermione sat together on the train and he told her about what he was worried about. She comforted him, as always, and he felt better. She always had that effect on him.

They sat in silence for most of the train ride. But it was a comfortable silence. Draco looked out the window at the rolling hills and clear blue sky. Wisps of cloud were drifting through the air, and there was a cool, light breeze. He opened the window, and he felt the sun warm his skin. It was a nice day, and Draco's nerves were calmed by the slow drawl of the train moving through the countryside.

The train came to a slow stop and Draco and Hermione walked off the train. "Hermione, can I introduce you to my mother?" He asked nervously.
"Yes, I would love to meet her. It should be easier without your father there" she said simply. Draco nodded in agreement. He saw his mother smiling at him, and he walked over to her.
"Who is your friend, Draco?" His mother asked quietly.
"This is Hermione" he introduced her.
"Hello Mrs. Malfoy" Hermione said politely.
"Oh, call me Narcissa, dear."

They then went on to explain what happened in detention. Much to Draco's relief, his mother seemed delighted. "That's wonderful! Do you know what it means?" They both nodded and smiled warmly at each other. "Draco, your father must never know about this. He will be angry" she looked worried.
"Mum, why can't we leave him?" Draco pleaded.
"You know why. We have nowhere to go" she looked defeated.
"I'm sure I could organise for you to stay with me and my parents. They would love to meet you" Hermione piped up.
"That's nice of you dear, but we just can't. Dumbledore would find out"
"He wouldn't" Hermione protested "my parents have an aversion to him because of the way he has let Draco be bullied" Narcissa looked confused.
"Draco, you never told me you were being bullied" she said with a worried look on her face.
"Because Severus said there was no way to stop it. We already told Dumbledore but he doesn't care" Draco looked down at his feet.

Hermione saw her mother waving and smiling at her. "Hey, my parents are over there. You can meet them now" she said excitedly. They walked over and her parents smiled at them. "Hey, this is my friend Draco." she announced.
"It's good to see you have made friends already Hermione" then she addressed Narcissa "I'm Jane, It's nice to meet you" they shook hands politely.
"I'm Narcissa, Hermione is a wonderful girl" Narcissa seemed to like Jane. Draco liked her too. Even though she was a muggle. Everything his father told him about muggles was a lie.

"Narcissa, we have to go now. We should catch up sometime" Jane suggested. Narcissa stiffened.
"Well, you see, my husband is quite... assertive. I'm not sure he would allow it, because you are a muggle" she said apologetically.
"You shouldn't let him control you. If he is that bad, maybe you should leave him. Would you like to come back with us? I could help you" Jane said comfortingly.

Hermione's P.O.V
They eventually convinced Narcissa to come back with them and talk about things. They drove home, and Draco and Hermione were talking about what they were excited to do next year at Hogwarts.

They arrived home and the four of them walked into the house. "Hermione, Draco, why don't you two go play in the backyard while we talk things over?" Jane suggested.
"Mum, we're not children anymore! We do not 'play in the backyard'" Hermione said with confidence.
"Fine then. You can go be moody teenagers in yout bedroom" Jane drawled playfully. They went up to her room while Jane and Narcissa sat down at the table.

Narcissa's P.O.V
They sat down at the table and her hands were shaking. "Lucius seems like a very toxic person. First things first, do you want to leave him?" Jane asked simply.
"Yes, I do. It would be...safer for Draco especially" Narcissa said carefully.
"Safer? Does he hit you or Draco?"
"Yes, he does. But the reason it's hard to leave him is because of the Dark Lord. He is a man who is trying to take over Britain and is gaining followers fast. Lucius is one of those followers so I have been dragged into it too. The worst part is he wants to recruit Draco when he's old enough"
"Well they won't expect you to be here so you will be safe. I'm sure Mark would be happy to have you here too. And you mentioned that Lucius is away, well you can leave before he even gets back"
"That's a good idea. I think I'll do it."

Narcissa made her decision. She was going to take Draco and leave Lucius. They organised for her to stay with Jane, all she had to do was break the news to Draco.
