The Unbreakable Bond

Hermione and Draco were inseperable. People from Gryffindor and Slytherin protested, but they didn't care. It didn't matter what everyone else thought.

They had a new goal. They were going to reform the bond between Gryffindor and Slytherin. They had each other, and they would never be alone again.

Dumbledore wanted to have a meeting with them, and they knew it would be bad. He favoured Gryffindor, and Draco's father was a Death Eater. No matter what anyone said, they refused to leave each other. They would stay side by side through the good and the bad.

It was time for the meeting, and they were nervous. "Mr. Malfoy, Miss. Granger, we feel that you two are creating a bad example for the rest of the school. See, Gryffindor and Slytherin have always had competition. Healthy competition of course, but you are around each other too much. Your house is like your family, and you are ignoring that. To remedy this problem we are going to seperate you. I assure you this is for your own good, so you can make friends in your own houses. You are dismissed, I do not want to hear anything more from you"

Draco and Hermione left feeling disgruntled. They had tracking spells placed on them so they couldn't be near each other. Something had to be done.

Draco's P.O.V
It was painful to have to be away from Hermione. It was almost as if Dumbledore was trying to make him miserable. He knew that no-one would be able to do anything.

Draco decided he would talk to Severus. He wouldn't be able to stop Dumbledore but he might be able to do something.

He entered the office and sat with Severus. "Draco, is everything okay?" he asked with concern.
"Not really. The headmaster said I can't be near Hermione anymore because we need to have bonds within our own houses."
"The meddling old fool. He doesn't truly understand love like he would have everyone believe. He still believes in the house rivalry, but what he doesn't understand is that some bonds cannot be broken. He didn't understand when I was in school either"
"What if she finds someone else? What if Potter and Weasley get to her? What if she stops liking me?" Draco said in a frenzy.
"Don't worry Draco. I have a plan. In the meantime, go back to your dorm, it's almost curfew" Severus said mysteriously. Draco left with a hint of hope, but not enough to stop him from having a sleepless night.

Hermione's P.O.V
It was the next morning, and Hermione was exhausted. She had barely slept that night. She was thinking too much of Draco. She had loved being at Hogwarts, but without Draco it was as if time was just dragging on without purpose. She missed him so much and Potter and Weasley were constantly pestering her.

She headed off to potions with a spring in her step because she would finally get to see Draco. She took her usual spot next to him and he seemed happier. They made the most of their time together, and spoke while preparing the ingredients.

Hermione was feeling carefree when suddenly Professor Snape spoke to her and Draco with accusation in his voice "Granger, Malfoy, do you think yourself above this class?" they shook their heads. "Yet you converse like you have no other task to do. Detention tonight at seven" he finished.

Hermione was confused. He had never told them to stop speaking before. They weren't even that loud! She always thought he was a fair teacher, so she tried to think of reason he might do such a thing.

Draco's P.O.V
He didn't understand why they were in trouble. Severus had always been so understanding and let them talk. Why was he suddenly giving them detention? Maybe it was part of the plan.

That day went too fast for his liking. He wanted to spend as much time as possible with Hermione, but the day seemed to go so fast when he was with her. He was starting to actually enjoy school with her around, but suddenly everything felt hopeless. He needed her, and he hoped she felt the same.

Hermione's P.O.V
She headed towards the dungeons for detention that night. She didn't want to get punished but she liked the idea of spending an extra hour with Draco. When she entered the classroom he was already there waiting for her. "Hey Draco" she said with a smile on  her face.
"Hey Hermione. I wonder what we'll have to do for our detention. I hope it's not scrubbing cauldrons" Draco shivered dramatically.
"That wouldn't be so bad. You're just dramatic. Draco the drama queen, I like that" she said with a playful smirk.
"Hey! I'm not dramatic, the cauldrons really are that bad." he said defensively.
"Well I suppose a drama queen is better than a drag queen" Hermione said with a thoughtful expression on her face.
"Well maybe I am a drag queen" he pouted. Hermione burst out laughing at this.
"You have no idea what that is do you?" she said with a giggle.
"Umm, no." he said awkwardly.
"Yeah, I didn't think so. You wouldn't have said that if you knew what it was" Draco looked scared.
"Hermione, what is it?" he said with a warning voice.
"You could find out in the library. I'm sure there would be lots of pictures" Draco looked at her apprehensively.

Draco's P.O.V

Professor Snape walked in. "What will we be doing for our detention Sir?" Draco tried to hide a laugh.
"Nothing. You will sit here and think about what you have done."
"What? What was the plan then?" he asked, confused.
"This is the plan you dunderhead!" he said half-heartedly. "I am giving you time to spend with her and maybe ask her something" he said with a low voice that only Draco could hear. He raised an eyebrow at Draco suggestively. Maybe it was the right time to ask her. Then Severus left.

He and Hermione had a great time laughing together, and when the detention was almost over, Draco decided it was time. "Hermione, can I ask you something?" he said nervously.
"Of course Draco"
"Will you be my girlfriend?" he bit his lip and waited for an answer.
"Yes!" Hermione yelled, her eyes sparkling with joy. She pulled him into a kiss, which he happily returned. His heart fluttered inside his chest. He would never forget that moment. A ribbon of light twirled around them and enveloped them. They pulled away and looked into each others' eyes. "What was that light?" he asked quietly.
"A magical bond" she answered with wonder "it means we will be together forever. We're soulmates" Draco's glassy blue eyes were filled with unshed tears. Nothing coupd get in their way anymore. He vaguely remembered his mother telling him about how strong magical bonds were. He was happier than he had ever been in that moment. Everything was going to be okay.

Severus' P.O.V
He heard Draco and Hermione talking happily from the other room. He loved seeing them so happy together.

Severus heard the laughter stop, and Draco looked nervous. He was going to ask her. This was the moment. Suddenly, there was a scream of 'yes!' and they kissed. His heart warmed at this. Draco and Hermione now had what he never could. That was when he noticed the ribbon of light. They were soulmates. Even Dumbledore couldn't break their bond.

Hermione's P.O.V
It was the best moment she had ever experienced. She loved Draco more than anything, and their bond was even stronger.  They were dismissed, and Draco escorted her to her dormitory. They walked away hand in hand, and embraced the silence. They had so many obstacles to overcome, but they would do it together.
