When Lightning Strikes Twice

Draco's P.O.V
Draco was around Hermione as much as possible. Everyone else in Slytherin made fun of him for being friends with her, but he didn't care. She was all he needed. He could never stop thinking about her. He was excited for potions next, because they could choose their own partners.

As they walked towards each other, Weasley  stopped her. "Weasley, don't touch her"

Severus' P.O.V
He saw the Weasley boy stop Hermione because she was trying to talk to Draco. He saw Draco telling him off, and smiled to himself. He could tell that Draco would do anything for her. "Weasley, must you insist on touching Granger so frequently?" the boy blushed and so did Hermione, although he had suspicions that she was just red with anger at him for making a spectacle of her.

She and Draco then walked to a bench holding hands. Weasley was still trying to talk to her, but she just ignored him. She really was very smart.

Severus watched and thought about how well they worked together. Hermione reminded him so much of Lily. Her intelligence and thirst for knowledge, her loving smile, and her attitude that was a force to be reckoned with. It was his fault, he reminded himself, that his Lily was dead.  He had to make sure Draco never made that mistake. If that meant keeping Weasley in detention every day until his seventh year, then that's what he would do.

Later, he was walking by the lake, and saw Hermione and Draco talking and laughing together. This was the same spot he and Lily would meet in secret. He feared for how Lucius would react to this. He surely would not approve of Draco loving someone who is muggle-born. He realised that Draco would be a lot of pressure to push her away. From his power hungry father, his unforgiving classmates, and worst of all, Weasley. What if Weasley pushed Draco to react quickly and Hermione never forgave him? What if she fell for Weasley and left Draco all alone.

He needed to talk to his godson about her. Find out how he really felt about her (although he already knew this), and give him advice.

Draco sat in his office, looking worried. "Draco, how do you feel about Hermione?" he asked bluntly. He would have been a lot more subtle with anyone else, but this was Draco Malfoy.
"I, I don't know. I just feel like she is more than a friend, but I don't know what. Whenever i'm around her I just feel like everything is fine, and she is all I need" now Severus knew.
"Draco. This feeling you speak of is love. You love her. Now, I know it is hard with Weasley, but stay close to her. And never, ever, call her the m-word" he had to ensure Draco would not make the same mistake as he, for he couldn't bear to see it all happen again. He knew Draco saw the meaning behind his words, so there was hope. Draco left the room, thoughts obviously churning in his head. So these were the cards he had been dealt. He was supposed to right his wrongs by preserving true love. And that was exactly what he would do.
