Darkness

You lay in your bunk in the Poseidon cabin, staring blankly at the ceiling. It was past midnight, and Percy was fast asleep in the bunk behind you, snoring loudly, and no doubt drooling.

You closed your eyes, trying to get to sleep, but there was no point. You couldn't sleep. Not with this much darkness around you.

You had never told anyone, but you were secretly afraid of the dark. Afraid of the suffocating blackness cocooning around you and making it hard for you to see. Afraid of the horrors that could be waiting for you, unseen in the shadows.

Normally, this had never been a problem. The Poseidon cabin had a small, saltwater fountain in the corner, which always glowed faintly sea-green, acting as the perfect nightlight. But it had broken earlier to today, and that meant there was no light. Only darkness

You tried again to take your mind off the blackness of the shadowy cabin, thinking of whatever made you happy. The water. Candy bars. Hearing Percy snoring.

Nico. You boyfriend, Nico Di Angelo. He always had a way of making you happy, just like you had with him. Every day, Nico never failed to make you laugh. It was strange how you, someone who feared the dark so much, had fallen in love with a son of Hades. But love never made sense anyway.

Making a quick decision, you silently pushed the covers off of yourself, and clambered out of bed, still in your night clothes. You were going to spend the night in the Hades cabin tonight. With Nico.

You grabbed the nearest hoodie and threw it on yourself. Then, you opened the door of the Poseidon cabin and slipped out as quietly as you could.

It was a cool, crisp night. But there was no moon tonight, and the clouds in the sky covered the stars. If anything, it was darker out here than in the shadowy cabin. Fear washed over your body like ocean waves.

Across the cabin area, you could see the Hades cabin. It's bright torches of Greek Fire shone brightly through the gloom. A light in the darkness.

Still trembling slightly, from fear, you hurried off towards the Hades cabin, letting out a sigh of relief when you got close enough so that the light touched your skin.

You slowed your pace as you reached the door to Hades cabin. Slowly reaching out a hand, you knocked silently on the door. You didn't expect anyone to answer of course, it was the middle of the night! But to your surprise, the doorknob rattled and the door swung open, reveling Nico standing in it's frame.

He was wearing his usual aviators jacket and black jeans, not even changed into his nightclothes.

"Who's-Y/N?" He asked, looking surprised.

"Shhh! I'm out past the curfew, let me in!" You whispered. Nico quickly opened the door wider and you rushed into the Hades cabin, plopping yourself down into the nearest empty bunk.

"Why are you here?" He asked curiously, silently shutting the door. You raised an eyebrow.

"I hope your not displeased to see me?" You said. Nico smiled.

"Of course I'm not." He said, walking over to you and kissing you softly, then plopping down next to you.

"Why aren't you sleeping, like the rest of the campers?" You asked. Nico shrugged.

"Children of Hades can never sleep at night." He said, "but why aren't you sleeping?"

"I, uh..." You felt yourself turn red as you muttered, "I got scared, and wanted to sleep here tonight."

"Scared?" Asked Nico, his voice sounding concerned, "Of what? What happened?" He put a comforting arm around your shoulders, and you leaned against his chest.

"I'm..." You trailed off.

"What? You can tell me, Y/N."

"I'm scared of the dark." You said quickly. For a moment, Nico stayed silent.

"Scared of the dark?" He finally repeated. You nodded, and Nico looked confused, "Then why'd you come here, of all places?"

"Because you're here." You said simply, "And I'm not scared when I'm with you."

Nico smiled at you. "Then I guess you should stay here for the night." He said quietly, sealing his arms around you, and hugging you tightly.

"I'd like that." You whispered back, resting comfortably on Nico's torso. You fell asleep easily that night, with Nico holding you. You never feared the dark since.
