Finding evidences of Joey mistreating his employees wasn't as hard as he thought. The tapes were enough proof. The hardest part was making the report not be as long as a novel book.
At least, he was done now and was sure that there would be absolutely no way for Joey to get away from this. He made several copies of them and gave them to the people he trusted the most to make sure of that. At least this way even, if Joey did something to him, he'll be able to expose him.
The only thing he had to do was present all the fact to Joey and give him the ultimatum: either he frees Inky and never lay a hand on him ever again.
When he was called to the boss' office, he knew exactly what he had to say.
Joey gave him like the last times the mixture. But this time, he refused.
"P-Pardon?" Joey sputtered, taken aback by the sudden refusal.
"I said that I won't do it." Tom said, crossing his arms and looking down at the man before him with a determined face.
When Joey gained back his compsure, he stared at the mechanic with a hard glare and asked:
"And why is that?"
"I won't hurt him" he simply replied.
"'Him'?" Joey said, confused. It then clicked in the boss' head. "Oh! You mean that abomination? Why do you even care about hurting it now?! You have been doing it two times now!" he smirks, thinking he had a point.
His cocky look was soon replaced by a confused one, when he saw Tom's smirk. "The thing is, mr. Joey, I've never done anything to him."
"What?!!"
"You heard me mr. Drew." Tom looked at the Mad man with a disgusted look. "He doesn't deserve what you've been doing to him! He's just a kid for fuck's sake!!
"A kid?!! HA!" Joey stands up and glares back at Tom with a mocking look. "This kid is an 8'6" tall ink demon with claws and gigantic wings!"
"Just because he can hurt people doesn't mean that he will. Tom glared at him. "I want you to give me the key for his chains, so I can free him, and never ever lay a hand on him!"
Joey laughs at this.
"You think you can order me around? I own you!" Tom smirked at that, which annoyed Joey to no end. "What?!!"
"You think I didn't come prepared for this?" He takes out several sheets of paper.
"What are these?" Joey asked, getting even more annoyed.
"Read it and find out." Tom said, still smirking.
Joey takes the sheets of paper and reads it. The mechanic had to use all his will power not to laugh, his normally always cocky and collected boss was getting more and more agitated by the seconds of reading his report.
"You're blackmailling me?!!!" Joey's face was now red from anger.
"That's exactly what I'm doing mr. Drew."
Joey then rips the report into pieces. "There! No reports, no blackmail material!" He was becoming desperate.
"Like I said Drew, I came here prepared. This was only one of thousands other copies I made."
Joey falls in his seat in defeat. As much as he hated to admit it, he really had no way of getting out of this without accepting the other man's conditions.
No...
He was Joey Drew for god's sake! He should be able to at least impose his own conditions! He smiled deviously at that.
Meanwhile, Tom was getting nervous, it was never a good thing when Joey smiled like that.
"Alright, I'll give you the key. But! Under a few conditions."
Tom slamed his hands on the man's desk. "I have everything that can be used against you! What makes you think that you are in any position to impose me anything!!"
"I have contacts. I can easily make sure that you and your wife have no chance to find a good job." He smiled wider.
'Shit!'
Tom gritted his teeth. Looks like he also had to agree on certain conditions to make this work. Don't get him wrong! He didn't trust Joey one bit! The only things that made him agree were his wife and the promise he made to Inky.
So he (although begrudgingly) agreed.
"Excellent! Now, the conditions are simple. I'll let you unchain it and take it away only if stays in your office during work hours. It can go anywhere it pleases on the lower levels only outside of those times. Simple, right?"
"... Fine. We have a deal."
"Perfect! Here are the keys!"
Tom immediately took the keys and exited the office, not wanting to stay here any longer.
Taking the chains off wasn't the easiest task, it hurt Inky really bad. When it was done, the ink demon tried to stand up but fell to the floor immediately. It seems like he would have to relearn how to walk. So Tom had to help him walk to his office.
When they arrived inside, Tom explained how things will go from now on. Even if it was limited, Inky overjoyed by this new freedom!
Tom cheked the time and found that it was late, so he took a blanket and a pillow and told him to lie down and rest. He was about to exit his office, but was stopped by a whine.
"I'm sorry Inky, I can't stay the night here. I need to go home. I'll be back tomorrow."
Another whine and the demon started to tremble. He was scared.
Tom sighed and went to take another pillow and went to lie down beside the demon, who made a happy noise at that.
"Fine... But it's only for tonight!" He tried to make himself as comfortable as possible. He then felt two slender arms around him and another weight on him. When he checked to see what it was, he saw that Inky had wrapped around them one of his wings. For some reason, even though they were made of ink, the appendage kept him warm in this cold office.
The man smiled and was soon lulled to sleep with the demon's now normal and regular breathing. He couldn't help but feel like he would owe Allison an explanation about why he didn't come home tonight.
