Apparently, Luke the bully didn't take too kindly to Jade's heroism. Neither did the teachers who oh-so-conveniently came running into the cafeteria at the end, finding Luke covered in spaghetti noodles, Matt with mashed potatoes in his eyes, and Jade and the then skinny boy, Alex, standing to the side with the lunch tray. There were too many fingers flying, quick to point the blame at any of the four students. So, as to not create any headaches, the teachers did the responsible thing and punished the students with mandatory afternoon discipline. Jade's triumph quickly faded into embarrassment. She was going to have a hell of a time explaining this to Aunt Joy.

She spent the rest of the day keeping her head down as she knew she didn't want to draw anymore attention to herself. Odd looks continued to be thrown her way, snickers and comments were made behind her back, but Jade was well past the point of giving a damn. All she could hear from the ringing that she knew would be in her ears when she'd eventually come home, and have her Aunt give her the talking to of the year.

The final bell of the day rang and the children all flooded out just as fast as they came in. They were excited go home and try to enjoy what little of the summer they had left. Jade however, trudged slowly down the empty halls towards the disciplinary classroom. She had been sent to after school discipline only a few times before, only for skipping out on classes or getting into arguments with other students, but nothing so physical and intensifying. It made Jade's skin crawl.

She came to the designated classroom and pushed the door open, finding a teacher waiting patiently at the desk as the other two boys, Matt and Alex, were sat at desks in the front row. Jade noted how Luke was nowhere to be seen.

"Carswell?" the teacher asked her. Jade nodded and quickly slid inside the classroom, "Take a seat," he instructed her. Jade took the desk next to Alex and kept her head down, focusing on the cracks and scribbles in the wood-top.

The teacher proceeded to grab a plastic red box and dropped it onto his desk, then he stood back to reveal a mob, bucket, and broom, "Alright yeh three. Yeh're gonna clean this classroom, corner to corner, wall to wall, until it looks bloody brand new. I'll be in to check on yeh every 'alf 'our and some," he said. Matt defiantly raised his hand, and the teacher rolled his eyes before he nodded for him to speak.

"Not to be of any disrespect, sir, but why ain't Luke 'ere wif us?" he asked. The teacher narrowed his eyes at him.

"The gym coach 'as Luke busy cleaning up the equipment closet," he then picked up a stacked file folder and pencil case, "I will be in the room across the 'all. If I 'ere any scuffling, fighting, or screwing around, I will be over 'ere faster than the bullet train. Any issues will result in an extra 'alf 'our for each of yeh. The room next door could use a good tidying as well,"

He then headed for the door, Alex tentatively cleared his throat and raised his hand. The teacher once again rolled his eyes and groaned, "What is it, Alex?"

"'Ow will we know when we're done wif the classroom?" he asked.

"I'll determine when the classroom is clean," the teacher replied. Matt raised his hand again, more just to annoy the teacher now.

"What about loo breaks?" he asked. The teacher suddenly seemed to go red in the face.

"Yeh kids should've thought of tha' before starting a fight," he said.

Jade looked at him incredulously, "But we didn't, though!" she suddenly exclaimed, "Why are we the ones getting punished when the big brute in the gym shoved this loser's face into the mashed potatoes?" she asked, pointing a skinny finger at Matt.

"Yeah!" Matt cried out in agreement, "And hey!" he glared at Jade. Alex refrained from rolling his eyes at Matt's outburst.

The teacher glared back down at Jade with a menacing stare, icy enough to stop traffic, "Yeh're 'ere Miss, because yeh physically assaulted a student. Mr. Helders is 'ere because he desecrated school property. And Mr. Turner is 'ere because he witnessed the desecration and did not report it to faculty. And if I get asked one more question, I will add another bloody 'our to the afternoon! I 'ave no plans, kids, I can go all night!" he hollered at them, "Now get to work!"
