By the time they had arrived home, they had found Rose already in the kitchen, having let herself in with the key Jade had given her. Jade had texted her whilst on the bus, asking her to prep the noodle soup she had made the night previous, as well as a pot of tea. The boys were like children in a candy store, looking around at every storefront and pub they had passed on the way, asking Jade about what they were to do for their three-day trip. Jade had apparently created a whole itinerary for them, listing out all the fun things they could do in the blizzard-ridden town of Newcastle. It was a university town, after all, there were plenty of things for young adolescents to get up to.
"Watch your step, here. The stairs are sort of icy," she warned as they came to the stone staircase. She fumbled quickly for her keys before unlocking the brownstone door and slipping into the warm household. They had made it just in time too as fresh snow began to fall from cloudy skies.
"Rose! We're home!" she called out.
Rose poked her head out from the tiny kitchen, donning an old apron that Jade's mum had left lying in the cupboard. A wonderful, hearty smell followed, instantly warming their chilled bodies. Jade told them they could leave their bags and coats by the door for now, they could bother with the unpacking later.
"Just in time, I brought the soup to a boil," Rose said. Alex peered over Jade's shoulder into the sitting room, finding the large blow-up mattress that had been left and waiting in the middle of the floor. He grimaced a little, knowing his luck, he's end up having to share a sleeping space with Matt.
"Fellas, I'd like you to meet Rose Willoughby," Jade said, "My best friend since kindergarten,"
"Not to mention future Mrs. Ryan Phillippe," Rose smirked back.
Andy cocked an eyebrow at her, "Ain't he married to that blonde from the Vampire Slayer show?" he asked.
"First of all, he's actually married to Reese Witherspoon, who worked on another movie with Sarah Gellar who starred in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Second of all, all good things must come to an end," she replied. Jade rolled her eyes.
"She's only semi-crazy," she told the boys.
"House is cozeh," Matt mused as he looked around, "Just us 'ere, then?"
"Um, no actually," Jade replied, "My brother should be hanging around somewhere. He's only ten so he's a bit shy,"
"What 'bout yehr dad?" Alex asked.
"Indisposed!" Rose called from the kitchen before Jade could reply, "He sends his regards, though," she said.
Jade grinned a petty little grin as she lead them into the kitchen, "He's got his own plans for the New Year, don't think he'll be bothering us," she said.
"So, we don' 'ave to suffer Mr. Carswell's interrogations, eh?" Matt asked jokingly, "Pleased to meet yeh, sir. We won' stay out too late wif yehr daughter,"
"Yeah, we'll 'ave 'er back by three in the morning," Andy chuckled.
"So... she hasn't told you 'bout the time we went to Sussex on a field trip and came back waaay past our curfew..." Rose said, prompting Jade to quickly shake her head at her. Alex turned to Jade with a curious, menacing smile.
"Nah, she never 'as," he said.
"'Cause it ain't important anyhow," Jade said to him, "Where's my lump brother?" she asked Rose.
"Hiding in his room, of course," Rose said, "I told him to come down ten minutes ago, J,"
"Figures," Jade said, "You fellas make yourselves comfy, I'll be down in a minute," she then looked to Rose, "And be nice to them, Rosalie,"
