The old hag of the evergreen moved her wrinkled fingers in front of the water she had sat out in front of her. Namjoon sat at the edge of his seat and watched every move see made with suspicion. Taehyung on the other hand, couldn't contain his excitement to see the magic she was performing in front of his eyes. "The light in him isn't responding to me." Her withered voice gave Namjoon goosebumps.
"What do you mean?" Taehyung asked.
"He is being blocked. I can't see to locate him."
"The only reason a fae's light would be unreachable would be because he..." Namjoon felt his heart skip a beat at his own thought.
"Fear not, little fairy. Your brother is not dead, he is merely being protected. I have seen this only one time before." The old hag of the evergreen walked over to her worn out desk and grabbed an old picture from its' surface. Taehyung took the time she took to retrieve the photo to look around the hut she lived in. It was cracked and weathered just like the person who owned it. The piles of dust and webs that covered almost every object tickled his nose just looking at it. He didn't dare disturb anything, in fear of breaking something. "About 13 years ago, to be precise."
The old hag handed the photo over to Namjoon and Taehyung leaned in close to get a look. "Who is this?" Taehyung asked.
"The witch who fell in love with the fairy king." The old hag said. "Her name is Beverly. She resided in the west witch village."
The picture was old and discolored, because of the wrinkles and rips the only part of the woman's face that you could see was a small chunk around her left eye and half of her smile. "Where do we find her? Maybe she is the one keeping prince Seokjin."
The old hag laughed, catching Namjoon and Taehyung off guard. "I highly doubt she is."
"Why is that?" Namjoon questioned.
The old hag grabbed the picture back from Namjoon and ran one of her hands over it to remove the dust. "Because she no longer exists in this world. 13 years ago, she found a new home in the ashy ground of the human world."
"You mean?" Taehyung asked.
"That's right. She died in the great fairy war." There seemed to be a sadness that swept over the old hag's face and Namjoon could sense no happy emotions coming from her aura.
"Then if it is not her. Who could it be?" Namjoon asked.
"That is an answer you must find on your own, but I would be careful. Your prince's light has changed along with the magic that was used to protect him. It may prove to be a more difficult task than you think." Without saying anymore, the old hag held out her hand and silently asked for the payment she had been promised.
"But you didn't find out anything..." Namjoon silenced Taehyung's rant and grabbed ahold of her hand. "Are you seriously going to pay her?" Taehyung asked.
A small blue light passed though Namjoon's arm and landed into the palm of her hand. "It is just a small amount of magic to be sparing. She did try to help, and I am a man of my word. Let's go." Taehyung's mouth hung in disbelief as he got up to follow his brother out of the hut.
"She didn't do anything, and you feed her your magic. What can you be thinking brother?" Taehyung asked as he mounted his horse.
"I only care about getting Seokjin back from wherever he is." Namjoon said as he kicked his horse to start moving.
"Do you think he is a captive?" Namjoon hoped not, but he couldn't say for sure.
The sun shining through the living room window wouldn't allow Marissa even ten more minutes of sleep. She groaned in annoyance as she tried to use the small couch pillow to cover her eyes, but Astra had had enough of her laziness. He helped the sun in its' mission to wake her by jumping up onto her stomach and gently rubbing his face against hers and purring loudly in her ear. "Okay, okay. I'm up. I get the point." She rubbed the sleepy from her eyes and rose to sit on the couch.
"You're awake, finally." For a minute Marissa had forgotten about the ordeal from last night and Seokjin's voice made her slightly jump. "I made breakfast."
"You what?" Marissa asked.
"You said you didn't like eggs and I woke up hungry, so I thought as a thank you for last night I would make pancakes for us." Seokjin smiled widely and Marissa felt a strange stir in her stomach at the beauty of it.
"How did you make pancakes? I don't have the ingredients." Marissa sat at the table and looked at the perfectly cooked pancakes in confusion.
"You had them. They were all shoved in the back of the cabinets, maybe you just didn't see them." Seokjin said as he shoved a huge bite of pancake into his mouth.
"Is that supposed to be a short joke?" Seokjin couldn't help but find the little angry huff Marissa just did cute.
"Not a joke if it is true." He laughed at how much cuter she got when she got angrier. Her small nose wrinkled up like a bunnies' as she pouted and Seokjin couldn't stop looking at it with admiration. Quickly enough he shook the thoughts from his head and went back to eating his food.
Marissa rolled her eyes and used her fork to cut a piece of the pancake off and eat it. She couldn't believe how good it tasted. "Holy crap. These are good." She exclaimed and started shoving piece after piece into her mouth.
Seokjin chuckled lightly as he grabbed her a napkin. "Easy, you are getting maple syrup all over your face." Without much thought he reached over the table and started gently wiping at the corner of her mouth. Marissa laughed at the small tickle the napkin caused as he wiped. For a split second the two made eye contact with each other and Seokjin could feel his heart pound in excitement as he looked into her deep brown eyes.
Scared of the feeling he was experiencing, Seokjin loudly cleared his throat and threw the napkin onto Marissa's side of the table and sat back into his seat, looking only at his pancakes. "Um, yea." Marissa's voice squeaked and Seokjin wondered if she had felt what he had. "Thanks." Marissa then used the napkin herself and they both ate the rest of their food in silence.
Once Seokjin was done, he brought his plate to the sink and walked over to Marissa. "Well..." It felt weird to him, breaking the awkward silence between them. "I thank you for your help, little witch, but I think it best if I left now." He wondered why he felt so sad. He knew he had to get back home, but for some odd reason, part of him didn't want to leave after all.
"You're welcome. Don't go getting almost killed again." Marissa tried to make a lighthearted statement, but she didn't really feel up to humor for some unknown reason. Her heart seemed to drop as Seokjin bowed and moved to the door.
"I shall try." Seokjin couldn't help but notice the small gleam of sadness that seemed to be in Marissa's eyes. He chose to ignore it and turned the knob, opening the door. He turned to face the world outside the door frame and took a short second to bask in the light that shined from it. He felt like he hadn't seen the sunlight in so long and the sensation on his skin as it surrounded him made him excited to go out into it. His earlier sadness was forgotten as he quickly tried to step out of the cabin, but to his and Marissa's surprise he didn't move.
"Something wrong?" Marissa asked as she watched Seokjin weirdly push on the door frame. "What are you doing?"
"There seems to be some kind of force..." Seokjin struggled to speak as he continued to push on whatever invisible obstacle was keeping him from exiting. "But I can't see it."
Marissa was confused, but curious. "Here let me see." She lightly pushed Seokjin out of her way and stood in front of the door. Without any trouble, she walked through. "Seems fine." She watched as Seokjin lifted an eyebrow in confusion and tried again to walk out the door, but to Marissa's shock, this time a bright blue light sparked and the next thing she saw was Seokjin being knocked back inside the cottage.
Seokjin rubbed his aching head as he sat up in the spot he landed in. "What was that about?!" He yelled frustrated.
*Meow* Seokjin's eyes grew wide as he looked over at Astra. "What do you mean I can't leave?!"
