"I don't think your little theory is very likely." Desiree said as she looked between Seokjin and Marissa. "A familiar is an animal, not a person."
"Technically, I am not a person. I am Fae, remember." Seokjin let the violet coloring bleed into his eyes and stripped the spell that hid his ears. Marissa couldn't stop herself as she reached over and lightly touched the point of the ear closer to her. In amazement, she started to trace the line of his earlobe. "I hope you are having fun being curious, but I might want to warn you just how sensitive a Fae's ears are, little witch." Marissa blushed as she looked down at his lap and saw him using one of her couch pillows to cover the unfortunate side effect. She quickly moved away from him.
Desiree couldn't help but laugh. "Wow, from only a little touch of the ear, really?"
"Never mind that!" Seokjin yelled. "This is the problem." Without giving her any warning, Seokjin leaned over to Marissa's side of the couch and kissed her again. This time neither of them closed their eyes. The blue flame was barely visible out of the corner of her eyes and Marissa pushed Seokjin hard, sending him back over to his side of the sofa. "Do you believe me now?"
Desiree couldn't fathom what she had just witnessed. "The familiar bond flame, but...but..."
"Now you understand." Seokjin huffed in frustration and put his shield back up to hide his identity again. Marissa was too freaked out to say anything, she just got up from the couch and walked over to the bookshelf. She pulled down the old worn out grimoire of her mother's and started searching for the spell she had preformed the night Seokjin appeared on the table. Once she found the page, she started to read it.
"A spell to find your familiar." Seokjin's voice came from just behind her shoulder and Marissa jumped away and held the book tightly to her chest.
"You aren't supposed to read it."
"And why is that?" Seokjin asked.
"The legends say that if a non-witch reads a grimoire, then it loses its' power to work."
Seokjin nodded his head. "Yes, I suppose I have been told something of the sorts. So, read it out loud."
Marissa held the book out just enough for her to view the page. She read everything that was written, but it still gave her no clue as to what was happening. "It is just a normal spell." She said and started to flip through the pages rapidly. When she did, something fell out of the pages and glided gently to the floor. "What is that?" Marissa asked as Seokjin reached down to pick it up.
The picture was stained and burnt in some spots, but the person was still slightly visible. To Seokjin the beautiful individual in the photo could have been recognizable to him even if the picture was mostly destroyed. "My father?" He held the picture up against the window that pointed to the forest entrance and compared them. His father was dressed in traditional Fae clothes that hadn't been worn in years and in the picture, he was posing right in front of the tree line.
"I wonder why a picture of your father would be in my mother's grimoire?" Marissa asked and curiously flipped through the pages hoping to find something else.
Desiree quickly jumped up and grabbed the book out of Marissa's hand and put it on the shelf. "Listen, I think we should go into town and get him some clothes. I mean since he is stuck here and all." Desiree started pulling Marissa towards the door and the look of worry on her face made Marissa curious.
She let her pull her out the door and shut it before she decided to question what had gotten into her. "Desiree, what is going on?" She asked, yanking her wrist out of Desiree's painful grip.
Desiree looked over at the window and saw Seokjin there still inspecting the old picture. "Let's talk when we are further away." She attempted to grab Marissa's arm again, but Marissa moved it out of reach.
"No, tell me now. I won't go anywhere with you unless you tell me what is going on." She wrapped her arms across her chest.
Desiree rolled her eyes in annoyance, but knew she had no choice but to tell Marissa the truth. "His father is the reason your mother is no longer walking this Earth. Do you understand?" Marissa felt like her world was crashing down around her and she was frozen stiff in her spot. Desiree walked closer to her and grabbed her hands in hers. "He is the prince of the Light Fae and his father was their king." Marissa didn't know why it felt like her heart was breaking, but oddly enough, her first thought was not of the information that Desiree had just told her, but her eyes fell on Seokjin.
"I wonder if he is okay?" Desiree was shocked to see that her best friend was shedding tears not for her lost mother, but for the son of the man that caused her death.
