chapter 5

Two days later (Paige's POV)

there was still no change in Chris' condition. everyone was getting worried but even the doctors couldn't do anything to help

Emma had come down today to check on him and me, i haven't left since he was shot but i knew i had to eventually. Emma came to remind me of that

"you can't just stay here, when he wakes up you don't want him to see you like that" Emma groaned, she had been trying to convince me to leave for almost an hour

i finally agreed and she drove me back to our house. when we got inside Cody was there with a couple other of Chris's men, probably finalizing some order to attack or something. I wouldn't know, Chris has specifically told me to stay out of his business multiple times

"hey Paige" Cody yelled my way "can we chat a second in Chris' office"

"let her take a shower first then she's all yours" Emma answered for me "alright" was all she got back

I went upstairs and into Chris and my room, sitting on the bed i rubbed my belly lightly. I started crying quietly, growing up without a husband or a father for our baby would be so hard, i didn't want to put my baby through that.

I heard a soft knock on my door "Paige? are you finished your shower yet? it's been an hour are you okay?" it was Emma

"I'm alright Em, just cleaning up a little" she didn't seem convinced so i went to the door and opened it, giving her a small smile

"oh my goodness you haven't even showered yet! what have you been doing this whole time?" Emma remarked

"I was just thinking about some things, i don't want my baby to grow up without a father Em! that would kill me, i don't want to live without him!" i was crying again

"hey..." Emma started, she was cut off by the door flying open when cody burst in

"Guys!! he woke up! we better get down there"

I stopped crying and looked at Cody, he had a quizzical expression on his face when he came in, seeing me and Emma sitting on the floor, me still in my borrowed hospital clothes and crying. Emma blushed and helped me up

"let's get you changed" she said walking over to my closet "Cody you go ahead we'll meet you there"

"alright, take your time, the doctors said he's still not talking, maybe he'll want to talk to Paige when you get there" Cody replied and walked out

Emma was blabbering about random things while she was looking through my closet but i wasn't listening, i was too worried about Chris. at least he was awake now, he could have many things wrong with him now but we had to stay positive

"so is this okay" Emma's words snapped me out of my thoughts. She was holding up a light blue long-sleeve shirt and a pair of ripped jeans "Paige?"

"yeah sorry that's fine" i took the clothes from her and went into the bathroom. looking in the mirror i touched my cheek, my face was red and puffy from crying. I washed my face and changed into the outfit Emma picked out.

I left the bathroom and Emma wasn't there. there was a note on my dresser, it read

"hey i left with Cody but Mrs Kay is downstairs, she'll take you over. she didn't want to arrive without someone to go with her so i said you guys could go together, i knew you'd be ok with that"

she's so extra sometimes. I grabbed my phone and wallet and stuffed them into my backpack. i headed down the stairs and just like Emma had said Mrs Kay was sitting on the large wrap around sofa in the living room
