When I woke up, Emalie was cooking breakfast and Grandpa was sleeping in a chair. His arms crossed over his chest. His snore woke him. I giggled. Grandpa looked up and yawned. He smacked his lips a couple of times and rubbed his hand down his face.

"Good Morning," I said.

He nearly jumped out of his seat. I giggled again.

"Jeez, Girl! Ya nearly scared me out of my skin. That wouldn't have been a good look on me," he said, laughing.

"I'm sorry. I didn't want to wake you. You know you snore?"

"Yep! Your Mamaw used to hate it. I swear that woman punched me every night." He laughed. It was a deep rumbling laugh.

To grandpa, I asked, "Have you seen Sebastion come in?"

"Nope, at boy ain't been here atall."

"I wonder where he is," I said to myself. "I'm going to try to call him, again."

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and sat down next to grandpa, on the arm of the chair. I don't remember much of our visits from my young memory, but I do remember the bond and love between us. That's something that no amount of time or space can take from a girl and her grandfather. I dialed Sebastion's cell. After four rings and to my relief, he answered.

"What," he snapped.

"I was just calling to check on...," he interrupted me before I was finished.

"I don't need you to check up on me." I could practically see his eye-roll, in my mind.

"Okay. Fine. Grandpa is here. Just thought I'd let you know."

I hung up and huffed. Why did he have to be so rude? I know he has a lot on his mind right now, but so do I! He had no right.

Grandpa broke the silence. "There are things we need'a discuss. I know this is yer home and the last thing I wanna do is take you from it and your friends, but since there is nowhere else for you to go, you are in my care."

"So," I prompted.

"So, after the funerals and all of the business here is done, we're headed back to Arkansas."

Damn, I thought. "Why can't we just stay here, with Sebastion?"

"Your parents made it clear that you were to be put in my custody if anything was to happen."

I closed my eyes and frowned. I felt a tear slide down the bridge of my nose. Grandpa's rough finger wiped it away and he said, "Wrinkle cream!"

I opened my eyes and looked at him. He wiped it across his forehead and I smiled.

"Mom used to say that."

He smiled, fondly. "Your Mamaw would do it, too."

We were silent for a moment. He cleared his voice and said, "You can talk to Sebastion and see about staying here and I'll see what I can do legally."

"Really," I asked, happy.

"If that's what you want." He smiled and pulled me into a side hug.

A couple of hours had gone by, with me doing the normal house things that mom used to do. I took care of Jessi and grandpa watched the television. When Sebastion finally arrived, I followed him.

"What," he snapped, again.

"Stop doing that! I just needed to talk to you!" I was getting angry.

"Fine. What do you want to talk to me about?" He didn't look interested at all.

"We want to stay."

"And?" He looked very annoyed, as he dug through his dresser.

"With you. If we can't then grandpa has to take us back to Arkansas with him. I don't want to go! I would be leaving everyone else that I care about! Please, let us stay here with you?" I begged him with my eyes. Willing him to agree. I physically deflated when he harshly replied, "No."

"Why not?"

He huffed and slammed the dresser drawer shut. "Because Isa'Bella! One, I'm not staying here. Two, There is nothing left for you here. Three, I can barely take care of myself, let alone a teenager and a baby!"

"But," I cried, trying to change his mind. "I can take care of myself and Jessamine."

"I said no," he screamed.

I turned on my heels and ran from his bedroom. Grandpa met me at the end of the hallway and pulled me into a hug. I cried into his chest for what felt like hours. He didn't try to move me or push me away. He just held me, his hand rubbing soothing circles on my back. When I finished crying, I pulled away and wiped my eyes. He handed me a handkerchief and I wiped my face.

"Thank you, grandpa."

"I'm always here, girl." He smiled and kissed my head. Then he headed down the hall and into Sebastions room., closing the door behind him.
