(A/N)
This Stranger Things book takes place at the beginning of Season Three but I might mix and match some scenes from other seasons, don't hate me please. <3

Running away from home was never something I though I'd do, in fact, I never thought that anything like this was happen. It seems like everyone around me knew but I was just so blind. And I hate myself for that. Maybe if I had of noticed sooner then this never would have happened.

My brother, Joshua, and I jog through the entrance to a place called Hawkins in Indiana. We slow to a holt outside of a 7-eleven where we thought we could get ourselves a drink and maybe a little amount of food to keep us going at least through the night. Fortunate for us, Joshua has a friend here who is allowing us to stay with him but I can't put a finger on what his name is. Was it Joe? No no no. John? Johnny? Jhono? Wait! That's it! Jonathan! That's his name. Apparently he also also has a brother my age, William.

"You coming or not, loser?" Josh jokes while heading into the 7-eleven, making the bell above the door go off. I run to catch up to him and dodge the closing doors with the bell singing above my head.

"I've got $5, you?" I say while counting the change from the back pocket of my jeans.

"$7. Now hurry up Y/N!" He shouts at me playfully and I just roll my eyes and head over to the slurpee machine. I'm not a huge fan of slurpees, especially strawberry, but it's the cheapest option for a cold drink.

I grab a $1 cup and place a plastic dome lid on top before placing it under the nozzle labeled 'cherry' in large red letters against a blue background, images of cherries scattered around. I pull the nozzle toward me and watch it fill right to the brim with the dark red ice, making sure I get my full dollar's worth out of it. When I'm done I wander through the food section and grab a bright yellow box of Eggo's, I haven't had those since before my father kil- never mind.

I take the items to the counter to find the man behind it dozed off, snoring loudly. I roll my eyes and walk away, out of the door with my stuff. Josh comes up next to me holding a coffee, three packets of lolly snakes and carton of beer.

"How did you even get that? Why? What? Put it back Josh." I comment on the slab of beer Josh is holding out in front of him. He shakes his head. "Now." I retaliate bluntly. He turns away, scared, and comes back out of the faded store a minute later with a slab of Coke in hand.

"Lets go, Jonathan should still be up." Josh starts walking down the dark road, only the dim light from the street lights and the shining of the moon through the trees being our one source of light, which is barely enough.

"What, at 3.21 in the morning? Are you crazy Joe?" I shout at him, still walking away.

"No. But he is." He shouts back. I roll my eyes and jog up to him and follow him in the direction of 'The Byers House'.

----

A few short minutes pass by of us two walking slowly side-by-side down the dark roads of Hawkins, Indiana until Joshua stops outside of a possibly run down looking home. A letter box out the front reading 'Byers' is scribbled black letters. A yellow light shines from between a gap in the curtains of the front room. Obviously, someone's awake.

"You knock." Josh turns to me. I look at him, furrowing my eyebrows and scrunching up my nose in a questioning manner.

"Me? He's your friend!" I whisper shout and Josh rolls his eyes at me looking at me in disgust, why? I have not a clue. Josh walks towards the stained, wooden door.

*knock kncok*

Not even a second later the door bursts open to reveal a boy about Josh's height and age, brown hair and brown eyes which are complimented by the big purple bags beneath them. He smiles when he sees Josh and gives him the biggest bro hug I've ever seen in my life. I fake gag and Josh glares at me.

"Hey Josh! Hey, um, you are?..." the boy I can only assume to be Jonathan looks down at me, smiling at me as if I were a baby.

"Y/N." I say while smiling back trying not to be rude.

"I'm Jonathan. Come in guys, I set up the spare bedroom for whoever wants it and the couch in my room is also pretty comfortable." Jonathan tells both me and Josh as we step inside the house. A mess. The house is a mess. But it's quite nice and homely yet nothing like our old home...

I hand Jonathan the yellow box of Eggo's and he takes them to the toaster. The tall boy points me towards the spare bedroom. I follow his index finger to a door, behind the door being a very neat and tidy room with only a bed and a set of drawers inside. The bed has white covers folded up neatly on the corner so I decide it would be smart to make the bed so it would be ready when I need rest.

"Y/N, your Eggo's are ready." Josh whispers from the doorway making me drop the money onto the floor that I had in my hands in fright. I nod my head and make my way to the kitchen.

I down two Eggo's with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream on each and a can of coke. Coke is honestly gross but I really needed it after the day I had.

I make my way back to the guest room, shutting the door behind me and lay down. As soon as my head hits the soft pillow, I drift off into a deep slumber.
