I stared at the last question on my test. I remembered when we learned it, but I wasn't paying attention. I strained my thoughts once more. I heard something like nails scraping the tile floor. I strained again. I saw a shadow in the hallway. It looked a lot like Storm. I looked around. My teacher saw it too,

"What's that in the hallway?" He asked. I got up and walked out the door. I saw Storm sitting in the hallway staring at me. I looked around the hallway expecting to see Brie running down after him, but there was nothing. I stared at Storm, his eyes were full of panic and fear. I went into my classroom.

"Mr. Underwood, my friend's dog is in the hallway, and she is usually with him, but she isn't and I think something might be wrong. Is it ok, if I go now? I only have one question left and I was going to leave it blank anyway." Mr. Underwood looked at me.

"Sure Jason, I have to go anyway. See you tomorrow." He told me. I waved and stepped out to where Storm was. He ran a few steps and came back, as if he was taunting me.

I followed him through the hallway. Once he got outside he starts to run, fast, but slow enough for me to catchup. Storm started to run faster in the direction Brie and I take every day. About a block and a half away, I saw a blob of ash brown. I knew that color. It was the color I saw every day at my side. I took off running as fast as I could. Storm whipped by me, almost knocked me off balance. He stopped at the blob. I couldn't see the person's face because it was covered in hair, but I knew who it was because I saw the scar. It was Brie's scar.

I felt every muscle in my chest tense up. I whipped out my phone, I never used it but it was given to me for emergencies. As I turned it on, I saw her wrist. It was swollen three times it's size and the bone was jutting out of it. I tried not to gag as I put my passcode in. I dialed 911. A lady answered the phone.

"Hello, this is emergency services, what's your emergency?" She said.

"Hi, I need and ambulance, something happened to my friend and she's unconscious, and I think she broke her wrist. I need something really fast!" I sputtered.

"Don't worry, where is she?" The lady said

"She'll be in the middle of Dandelion and Sunflower court, I won't be there with her cause I need to get her parents, but her dog will be there with her. He might be a little protective, but he won't hurt anyone." I sputtered.

"Alright, I will send an ambulance for her." She said goodbye and hung up.

"Storm, stay here." I told him. He laid down next to Brie and laid his head down. I took off to her house I got there in a minute of two, it wasn't really that far. I skipped steps up to her doorstep, and I frantically rang the doorbell. Brie's mom answered the door.

"Hi Jason, have you seen Brie? She hasn't come home yet." I she said a bit worried.

"Something happened to Brie. She is unconscious, and I think she might have shattered her wrist." Her face grew very dark.

"Where is she?" She asked frantically.

"She is in the middle of Dandelion and Sunflower court." I said.

"YOU LEFT HER BY HERSELF?!" She screamed at me. I flinched at her volume.

"Don't worry Mrs. Miller, Storm so with her." Her face softened. She knew that nothing would get between Storm and Brie.

"KATHARINE WE NEED TO LEAVE NOW! GET YOUR SHOES ON!" She yelled into the house. In thirty seconds, Katharine was at the door in shorts and sneakers with a white T-shirt.

"Where are we going?" She asked looking at me. "And why is he here?" I stepped down the porch and her mom followed me with a frantic look in her eyes.

"We need to call emergency service!" She exclaimed.

"Don't worry ma'am, I already called them. We approached the court where Brie was, and we saw the ambulance trying to get her in, Storm was snarling and growling at them, not letting them near her. I ran up to them and I crouched down to Storm.

"It's ok buddy, they are going to help her." I grabbed his collar and stroked his ears. I saw them load Brie onto a gurney, and hook an IV to her. Her wrist was covered in shiny blood. They began to take simples and drug her with painkillers. Storm started to growl. I continued to stroke his ears. Brie's mom ran up to her.

"Oh dear God, what happened!" She exclaimed stroking Brie's hair. I looked at the place where Brie lay. They grass was wet with blood. I shuddered at the sight of it. They loaded Brie into the ambulance, and turned to her mom.

"Do you want to ride in with her?" The lady asked politely.

"I am afraid that I can't, I have to drive my daughter. Would you allow Storm?" She gestured to the wolf. "He is the only other living thing that I trust Brie with." The nurse's smile faltered.

"I guess so, I think we have some room," she looked in the ambulance where Brie was. I released Storm and he immediately jumped into the ambulance and sat down next to Brie. His eyes here firm and hard. If you do anything to hurt her, I swear you will pay for it. He seemed to say. I heard a scream inside the ambulance, at first I thought I was a nurse, but it was Brie.

"Storm!" she cried, the wolf faithfully licked her finger. Her arm was draped off the side of the gurney, and was hanging in Storm's face. She gave a smile and was swept back into unconsciousness. The nurses locked the gurney, and closed the doors. They drove off, and as they turned the corner, I was embrace in a strangling hug.

"Oh, my dear boy! I am so sorry for yelling at you earlier. I was terrified out of my mind! Thank you so much for calling the emergency services and getting us! I owe you." She said gushing. "Let me call your parents and tell them that you're going to the hospital with us." I was about to say no, but I did want to see Brie, I hated seeing her vulnerable like this. We walked back to their house and I hung out with Katharine in the den.

"So ... are you dating Brie?" She asked out of the blue.

"No but, she's my best friend." I told her, trying to hide the heat that was rushing to my cheeks. Her mom came out with a grim smile.

"Alright, I talked to your parents, and they said it would be fine as long as you were home by eight." She said "Let's go!" She gave a weak fist pump. She hopped into the car. Katharine took the pass anger seat, so I sat in the back. We sat in dead silence the whole ride. When we arrived, Brie's mom looked at us.

"Jason, will you take Katharine inside and go find Brie? I need to park the car and parking here takes forever." Katharine opened her mouth to protest, but her mom's glare made her shut it. We walked inside and we saw the lady at the receptionist desk.

"Hello, who would you like to see?" She asked glumly, she has gray hair and dull gray eyes.

"Um Brianna Miller." I said.

"Room 2580, second floor." She said. Katharine and I both called thank you and ran up the stairs into room 2580. In the room we saw Brie, who had several tubes threading in and out of her skin. The doctors had cleaned her arm and bandaged it. Brie's mom came bursting into the room at full speed.

"Oh Brie my dear! I am so sorry!" She exclaimed as she rushed to the bed. I saw Storm laying under the bed, his blue eyes glowing. His eyes looked worried. The nurse came in,

"Hello, are you Brianna's family?" She asked politely.

"Um yes we are, what happened to her?" Her mom asked.

"It appears that she was hit by something, we don't know what, and bruised a rib and badly broke her wrist." She replied. "I am afraid that you would have to leave, the surgeons are going to be preforming surgery soon. They would have to remove the pieces of broken bone ." She said and began to shoo us out. I took one more glance at Brie, who was lying peacefully on her bed with Storm, her protector, sitting under her. Then the nurse closed the door.
