Rian's POV

Me and Zack have been best friends forever, despite me being older by a couple months our parents were good friends and as such we grew up together, that was until they moved, and that wouldn't be a problem, except one thing, Zack made a promise to me, one that he swore to keep.

It was promised one day when we were about 6, we were hanging out after school in the park like we always used to do, just messing about and talking, I had a crush on some girl, I can't remember her name, and well I say crush, I was 6, I was complaining about her to Zack, whining about how I'd probably never get to go on a date with her, and so because I was 6, would probably never go on a date in my life. I was down in the dumps about it and Zack being the greatest friend ever that he was, said this: "hey, how about, when we grow up, I take you out on a date, so that you get to have a date, I promise to do that." he said as confidently as possible, cheering me up to no end, because you heard him, I'd get to go on a date, and we were small, we didn't know how harsh the world would be.

So when we got to age 12 and Zack had to move we were devastated, it'd be damned near impossible for Zack to keep in contact, let alone keep that promise, but nonetheless, before they left we had sleepovers almost every night, we got a lot closer as well, we'd always been close for best friends, we never shyed away from hugs or physical contact in general, sure people thought it was weird but we didn't pay much mind to it, it was just what our friendship was. The day they were leaving we hugged for what would be the last time, we held each other and yeah, we cried a bit, Zack swore to keep his promise, that he would take me out on a date at some point when we grew up, we both knew we weren't straight by then so neither of us found that promise weird, he promised to keep his promise, though I reckoned it would be broken.

Years passed, we're both now 25, I'm still in Baltimore, I never moved, I didn't wanna lose all the memories I have of my childhood. I work at a record store, I'd rather be playing music but as it stands I couldn't see myself playing music without my best friend.

I'm on my way back home, I now also have coffee because gay, I was walking past the park, that park, I'm only walking because it was actually nice weather this morning- someones tapping on my shoulder, I turned around and saw some guy holding flowers who the fu- "hey Rian, its been a while hasn't it"

"It really has hasn't it" I grinned, low-key tearing up

"I promised you once we grew up I'd take you on a date, hope you're still up for it."

"Of course I am Zack."
