when you feel like you're on top of the world
fearless and unstoppable
nobody warns you how far you'll fall
when that darkness finally catches up with you
or the pain of the impact
as your bones shatter against the rocks
they don't tell you how quickly everything can change.
that the people who brought you higher and higher
encouraged you to keep climbing until you reached the top
and held your hand when you stumbled
promising they'd never let you fall
will be the first to push you off
and laugh when you hit the ground
ignoring you as you beg for help
crying for somebody to pick you up
instead staying in their joy
too happy with themselves to care.
