Ok this was a dystopian writing assignment I got for my 8th grade year so it's the only thing i have on here that's actually finished. Enjoy! (P.S. These are all copied and pasted from Google Docs, so if anything looks weird it's probably because of that)

- Prologue -
Neo walked down the sidewalk, occasionally glancing at the tall uniform houses with their mowed lawns and pristine gardens. Tiny picket fences surrounded the most gorgeous assortment of flowers, as well as stepping stones decorated with the prettiest pebbles. Large balconies framed the center of every building, each platform enclosed by a thick metal railing that formed together to create intricate swirls.
Neo stopped at a small flat, flipping the latch up on the metal gate that stood in front of the house. He made his way over the cracked pavement, tiny signs of moss starting to appear through them, and unlocked the front door.
There was an eerie silence as he stepped inside his home, the drawn blinds shading the house of any light. Neo called out for his mother, only to be met with stillness. Walking down the hallway and opening the door to his mother's bedroom, he switched on the light and was greeted by her. Her body suspended to the ceiling. Her last remaining breath gone with a kick of a stool. She was still. Quiet. Dead.
Neo screamed.

"What's your name? My name is Anastasia. You can call me Anna though." The tiny girl peered up at Neo, her strawberry blonde waves bouncing against her shoulders.
Neo remained silent, only occasionally looking up from the book that sat in his lap.
Anna stared at the older boy, her reflection gleaming off of Neo's hazel pupils. Turning away from him, she glanced back at him and waved goodbye before making her way to her seat. "Tell me if you have any questions! Alright?" She said, smiling at Neo one last time.
He didn't answer.
For the next two weeks, Anna followed Neo around, curiosity getting the better of her.
"What's up with you? You know you can sit with me if you don't have anywhere else to sit." Anna waved her hand in front of Neo's face, hoping for a reaction. "Hello? Earth to Ne—"
"You know you don't have to talk to me if you don't like me."
Anna stepped back, shock displayed in the crease between her brows. "What are you talking about?"
"I can tell that you don't like me." He paused to look at Anna. "It's in your eyes."
"My . . . eyes?" She tilted her head in confusion.
"Try to fix that before anyone else notices." With that, he left, leaving behind shattered dreams and fixed realities.
The seams have fallen apart.

The evening sun had just fallen below the horizon by the time Neo got home from school. After getting inside, he shook off his black tennis shoes and walked over to the living room, where he collapsed on the couch and nestled himself between two crimson pillows. He stretched his feet out and glimpsed at his adoptive father, who stood in the kitchen as he prepared tonight's dinner.
"Hi."
Roland lifted his head from the onion he was cutting and peeked at his son. "Neo! When did you get back?"
"Just now," Neo replied, shaking his head in disbelief.
"So, how was school?"
"It was fine. That girl won't stop following me around though."
