Dedicated to Sanya1401"God please let Zara be alright. God please let Zara be alright. Please god have mercy" were the words that were repeatedly roaming around in Evelyn's head. Today was her day back to school. And she was late.
"MOM! I'm not waiting for her now. Enough." Jeremy said in a tired voice.
The Deja-vu hit Evelyn like a bullet train. Her head spun. So much had changed since that first class of Mythology - fiction by Mrs Leur.
"Coming" sighed Evelyn. Today was going to be tough. Especially without Zara. As long back as Evelyn remembered, she had never been to school without Zara unless it was an emergency or a pre planned bunk made to seem as a coincidence.
Evelyn dragged her bag and grabbed breakfast. She rarely noticed what she was eating these days. It had been 4 days since Zara was in coma on life support. Things weren't looking good. The doctors had said that if she did not respond to any external stimulus within a week, they'd have to put her off the support. And then? Zara would follow Andromeda's path to death.Evelyn didn't want to think about this. She kept her mind clear of the negative thoughts and tried her best to cheer herself and Jeremy up. Jeremy too was soulless these days. It killed Evelyn to see him like this.
But the silver lining to the cloud was, due to all the extra incentive around her to save Zara, Evelyn had been pushing herself hard in the astrotravel lessons. She had once almost transported herself, as she could almost smell the fresh hill pine scent, swaying flowers and enchanting magic of the land, when she was pulled back by Davins. Straying into unwelcome territories without supervision was perilous.
Evelyn took her seat on the bus after several days. As expected, everyone was staring at her and muttering something to the person sitting next to them. No doubt they were talking about the Leur's. Everyone at school had been dying to know the whole story. It was one of the few cases where the real story was more interesting than the rumour. It was rumoured that both mother and daughter had been a part of black magic or had arch enemies. Phew.
She stepped out of the bus and saw the board where she'd banged her head as Joey, one of Jeremy's football lads, came running up to her.
"Hi Eve! Heard you were coming back today!" He said cheerfully.
"Yeah. I'm here. Aren't I? " Smiled Evelyn.
"Yup... umm ah how's Jeremy?" He whispered in a concerned voice.
Sighing Evelyn said," He's alright. You guys know how much he liked Zara. It's tough for him to cope up."
"Yeah... I wish Zara a speedy recovery."Evelyn thanked him and walked to her locker. She smiled at the pinkness of it. That stupid, beautiful, lovely girl Zara. She picked her books and saw her timetable. Myth-Fi was first period. She loaded her hands with Dianna Verez's book and walked to her class.
"Hi Evelyn!"
"How have you been?"
"Is Zara fine?"
"Do you need any help?"
"We're happy you decided to come back!" All the people in the class said. She was enveloped in the wishes of her welfare. Her eyes welled up.
"Thank you everyone. Yes I'm fine. Zara is currently on life support. Wish for her speedy recovery. "She said sniffing.
"If you need anything Eve, I'm a phone call away!" Olivia Tanner said.
"Yeah I appreciate that Olivia!"
The chatters soon died away as the new teacher entered. He looked about thirty-ish and was extremely tall. About 6'2.
"Good morning class" the teacher said in a deep booming voice and Evelyn could almost hear the girls in the last row swoon. He had chiselled features, a good frame and salt pepper hair. More pepper than salt. He looked like one of the men you'd see in advertisements of distinguished watches.
"My name is Gushvin Stery. You can all call me Professor Stery." He added.
"Y-yes sir" Stammered Mia as Evelyn rolled her eyes. Swooning over a teacher? Seriously?
"I will be taking care of Myth-Fi post the decease of Professor Leur. May her soul rest in peace. So all of you, flip to page 165 of Mythical Sciences by Stephen Bolester."
