(Tyler's pov)

[December, 2154]

After I assembled the alliance of the Omeha clans, Hayley, Brendon, and I received a message from Sam back on base.

"Tyler it's crazy here! It's full mobilization! They're rigging the shuttle as a bomber! They've put these huge pellets of mind explosives. It's for some kind of shock awe campaign."

"Frickin daisy cutters." Hayley said.

"Watson has taken over! He's rolling in! There's no stopping him!"

"When?" I asked.

"0600 tomorrow."

"Sam! Get off!"

"I gotta go."

After Brendon shut the computer off, he was shaken up over what Sam told us.

"We're screwed!" He cried.

Hayley chuckled.

"And I was hoping for some sort of tactical plan that didn't involve martyrdom."

She looked at me and Brendon.

"We're going up against gunships with bows and arrows."

I looked at Hayley and Brendon.

"I have 15 clans out there, up against with 2000 warriors. They know these mountains, but we fly them, you fly them. They don't. Their instruments won't work out there. Missile tracking, won't work. They'll have to fire a line of sight. If they bring the fight to us, we have the home field advantage."

Hayley sighed.

"You know he's gonna commit that bomber straight to the Tree of Souls."

"I know." I replied.

"They get to the Tree of Souls, it's over." Brendon added. "That's their direct line to the Great Mother, their ancestors. They'll destroy them."

I reached over and touched Brendon's shoulder.

"Then I guess we'd better stop them."

On the eve of battle, I went to the Tree of Souls for a time of prayer.

I kneeled down before the tree, seemingly feeling the soul of Jenna flow through me, giving me knowledge, wisdom, and love.

I closed my eyes before the Great mother.

"I'm probably, just, talking to a tree right now, but if you're there, I need to give you a heads up."

I connected my braid to the stem of the tree, and began to pray.

"If Jenna is with you, look into our memories, see the world we come from. There's no green there. They killed their mother, and they're gonna do the same here. More sky people are gonna come. They're gonna come like a rain that never ends, unless we stop them."

I felt the sacred seeds circle through me as I prayed.

"Look, you chose me for something. I will stand and fight. You know I will, but I need a little help here."

I lowered my head, sighing, and removing my braid.

I turned and saw Josh standing over me.

"Our Great mother does not take sides, Tyler."

He touched my cheek.

"She protects only the balance of life."

I looked up to the tree one last time, then looked at my life.

"It's worth a try."

We embraced each other, connecting our heads together for that moment of true love.

For we did not know if it was going to last forever.
