So, Erah starts running after the little Princess who just changed her life.
Eventually, Erah caught up to the Princess, who had stopped to catch her breath, and was hunched over with her hands on her knees and was giggling between breaths. Erah, while also trying to catch her breath smiled, and though her smile wasn't big and noticeable, Adey saw it and gasped. "Erah, your smile! It's so pretty!" Erah's mouth dropped open slightly. Princess Adelena, who was known for her most exquisite beauty, had just called her smile pretty! Erah had never been given a more meaningful compliment in her life. She had always been brushed off as the little poor girl, not worthy of a second glance. "Tha-" Erah was about to respond when Princess Adey smiled and started running again, and this time Erah followed her right away.
After lots more running, and multiple breaks, they finally reached the castle. Erah looked at it in awe and Princess Adey bounced up and down, before rushing inside, motioning for Erah to follow. Erah did follow, but much more slowly, looking around at the castle walls trying to take it all in at once. When Erah looked forward again she saw two huge doors, with intricate carvings and paintings like nothing Erah had ever seen. Princess Adey was waiting in front of the doors and was straightening her gown out and fixing her hair. Erah looked down at her clothes and winced slightly. The dress she had on was the nicest one she had, but it was still old and worn. "Oh don't worry about the dress. It's perfect! Okay! Are you ready?" Erah took a deep breath and nodded. Princess Adey smiled and nodded towards the guards. Then the doors started opening very slowly, and Erah saw the inside of the Throne Room.
It was a huge round room, with sunlight flooding in from all sides and bouncing off the gold and silver and other rare gems covering the room. Then, she saw the Queen. She sat on her throne, looking flawless, in every way and yet somehow still managing to look kind and gentle. Erah got down on one knee. "Your Majesty!" Erah silently cursed herself, hoping that the Queen wouldn't kick her out of the palace for not looking tidier, or for taking too long to bow. "Oh, my sweet girl. Stand, stand. The formalities are not important now. Dear child, tell me your name." "M-my name is Erah, Y-your Majesty." Erah gave a small and quick bow when she finished speaking. The Queen smiled. "And what brings you here today, dearest?" Princess Adey jumped in. "Oh Mother, Mother! Do you remember how I and Miles' old maid retired Because she got too old or something? Well, I thought maybe Erah could take her place! Oh, please can she?" The young Princess spoke in a rush, and the entire time she talked she bounced on the balls of her feet. "Slow down, sweetie. You always seem to be in such a rush to grow up! As for your question, yes I do believe Erah would be perfect for the job!" Erah let out a surprised "Oh!" while Princess Adey squealed in delight. "When can she start Mother? When can she start!" The Queen smiled. "Well, I believe that there is no time better than the present! Darling, why don't you take Erah to the maid's chamber to change? The Head Maid Meraud will tell her what to do after that." "Yes, Mother! Thank you!" Princess Adey turned around and waved for Erah to follow, and Erah quickly bowed, mumbled a thank you, and followed Princess Adey once more.
Princess Adey led her through the halls of the regal palace, and once again Erah found herself enraptured by the wonders of the Castle. I will be working here starting today! This will be my home too! Erah was excited beyond measure but knew that she would have to keep a straight face and maintain a regal manner. Soon enough, however, they reached the servants quarters. When princess Adey entered the room, all the servants bowed immediately. "Oh, stand up, stand up! You know I don't like it when you bow like that! I just brought a new girl who is to be mine and Prince Miles' new maid, and the Queen said to bring her to see Meraud so she could get started right away." When she finished speaking, the servants all just continued to stare at the Princess until an older and slightly rounder woman stepped forward. "Get back to work, the lot of ya'!" The woman barked. There were mumbles of apology and the servants all resumed what they had been doing. Then the woman turned to face the Princess and her face softened. "Oh, well if it isn't the sweet little one! It's so good to see you, child!" The woman exclaimed, pulling Princess Adey into a tight hug. " Now, what brings you here today? You haven't visited in a while." "Oh Meraud, guess what? Do you remember how me and Miles' old maid retired a few weeks ago? Well, today I met Erah who had been headed up here to apply for a servants job, and I took her here, and then I asked mother if she could replace the old maid and guess what? She said yes!! So, I brought her here to get her outfit and get a briefing of the job." The Princess gasped. She spoke so quickly, Erah wasn't sure if she had taken one breath the entire time she had spoken. "Breath, young one," Meraud said, smiling at the excited young princess. She then looked Erah over. "So this one is to be the new maid?" Adey nodded. "Tell me your name girl."
"Erah, Ma'am." Meraud slowly nodded. " Have you had any experience working at all?" "Yes, Ma'am. I used to work for the town baker, helping with the bread and cleaning the kitchen and other things like that." "Well, that's good. At least you know something useful. Princess, why don't you go wait in your room? I'll send this one up soon." Adey nodded quickly and started heading upstairs. "Okay, now follow me, girl." Meraud started walking through the servants. Erah hurried to follow her. Meraud went into another room that looked like it might be the laundry room. "Okay girl. Your job is simple. Your job is to help our dear Princess and Prince with whatever they need. Got that?" Erah nodded. "Okay good. Now here on this table are our uniform sizes. Pick one and then go into that room to change." "Yes, Ma'am." Erah walked over to the table and picked a uniform that looked like it would fit. Then she walked into the room Meraud had told her to change in. The room was more like a closet and was filled with dust and cobwebs. Erah ignored the filth and changed quickly. She smoothed her dress out before walking out to show Meraud. Meraud quickly looked her up and down and nodded in satisfaction. "You'll work just fine. Now, this lady will show you to the princess' room. Do your job well."
Erah thanked Meraud, and the followed the maid out of the servants quarters and then through a series of long fancy hallways until they reached a large flight of stairs. She followed the girl up the stairs and to a large door with the princess' name carved into the fine wood. The maid motioned to the door, and then quickly bowed and ran off while mumbling something to herself. Erah sighed and fixed her hair slightly, before knocking on the door to the princess' room. "Erah!" Adey said, motioning for her to come in. Adey looked at her again and gasped. "Wow, you are such a pretty person! Have you seen yourself in that dress?" The princess exclaimed, and when Erah shook her head she pushed her to the nearest mirror. When Erah saw her reflection she gasped. Erah's thick brown hair was smooth and looked quite pretty. The uniform perfectly fit on every curve, showing her body shape, which in comparison to the old baggy clothes she used to wear was a huge improvement. Her green eyes looked bright, and Erah's face was free of zits or blemishes. Erah had never tried to look cute or even nice at all and had only looked in a mirror a few times in her life. "Wait!" Adey gasped before rushing over to Erah. She grabbed her hair and brushed it out quickly before tying it up into two ponytails with a small ribbon. "There," she said in triumph. The ponytails made Erah look much younger and cuter. "Now you look perfect! I want you to always wear your hair like this, okay?" "Okay, Adey," Erah responded. "Thank you. For everything. You are a truly wonderful girl, and I can't wait to be your maid!" "Thank you," Adey responded. "But don't forget, your my brother's maid too!"
