~A/N:

I thought I'd make this interesting and do the first part of this in a different perspective, so let's see how this goes.

Sarah's POV:

We dash through the forest, and I let Kyle take the lead to start with, since I have no idea where Devin is. I remembered those five years ago. Even though we weren't here that long, Devin was the best friend I had. It helped that he was kinda cute too. Now, there was something pushing me to find him, and Tara was chanting something in my head, but every time I asked her about it she'd ignore me and block it out. I was confused, but I let it be.

I picked up his scent, but it was different this time, more...delicious. It smelled like pine and wood shavings, which I never thought would be this enticing. I took off, out stripping Kyle and even my brother, Derreck. He was faster than me, mainly because he was bigger than me, and he still had some of his "alpha powers" from Bailey. I still hated that bitch for the way she tried Der. He was so torn up after we left. I didn't know what to do or what to say to help, and being only nine years old didn't help. I had not idea what was really going on. All I knew is that he liked her. I didn't know that she was his mate, or even what mates were until five days ago.

I push myself to go faster and all of a sudden I hear the howls of wolves and the chase begins. I smirk to myself in my head. I could smell him, and noticed that the other wolves had stopped, I'm guessing that Kyle told them to let Devin handle this. As if he could.

I could tell from the paw steps that he was barely keeping pace with me, but he was still several stretches behind and I decided to kick it up a notch. A tree with low hanging branches was off to the side, and I headed for it. The change in direction gave him a chance to close a bit of distance, but not enough. I leapt as I high as I could, and scrambled into the tree. The branches were low, but still out of reach of a jumping wolf.

I lay down on the limb and let my tail dangle down, pulling it up and tickling Devin's nose every time he jumped. Eventually he sat down and stared up at me, snarling. I see Der walk up, followed by Abby and Kyle. Devin spins around, a growl tearing from his throat until he sees Der and Kyle. With a quick snarl at Abby, presumably since he doesn't know her, he trots over to a tree, pulling clothes out of a bag burried at the base. He shifts just out of my line of sight, and I could see the shorts as he pulls them on.

He walks back out, still controlled at least in part by his wolf. I can tell because his eyes are still pretty dark and not his usual hazel. Tara is chanting louder in my head, 'Matematematematematematemate.' 'Hey, slow down, I can't understand you,' I tell her. She just ignores me and continues at the same high speed she was at before. I roll my eyes at her and look down.

I notice everyone else is back to their human forms. "What are you doing on pack territory?" Devin growls out.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't remember us right off the top of his head, or his wolf doesn't. "Devin, do you not remember me? You played with my sister for the week and a half we were here five years ago," Der says offhandedly.

I chuckle, or as much as a panther can chuckle. It came out like a pur, a rumble, and huff, all at the same time. Devin's eyes snap to me, and a lightbulb goes off in his head. I hear the other wolves approaching, and see five guys. One looks to be in his late twenty's, most likely the patrol leader, and the other four were around my age.

Der tosses some clothes at me, and I snatch them out of the air with my paw. I retreat, higher into the tree, so they don't see me while I shift. Once properly clothed, I jump out of the tree, landing in a crouch, just feet in front of everyone. A guy from the patrol wolf whistles at me and a growl echos around, coming from Devin.

A smirk plastered to my face, I walk to the guy that whistled at me. "What was that?" I ask him. After a minute passes, and he doesn't answer, I ask, "What, does the cat got your tongue now? Is it because you're afraid of li'l old me?"

He snorts, "Not a chance babe. You're almost half my size and I've been shifting longer than you."

Der chuckles in the background. "I highly doubt that little man, since I've been shifting for three years."

The guys eyes widen, "How old are you?"

"Only fourteen, but I turn fifteen in four months. I had a force shift three years ago...so I highly doubt that you could beat me in a fight," I say, my arm lashing out hitting right in the gut. "Don't ever whistle at me like that again." My other fist connects with his jaw before he could register the first one, "And I'm not your babe either. Make a mistake like that, and the cat really will have your tongue," I hiss.

All the guys back away from me. Okay, so maybe Derreck did train me in how to fight...so what? He didn't want anything happening. I just smirk at them, "That goes for everyone of you too."

I feel hands encircle my waste, picking me up from the ground as someone whispers in my ear, "What about me?" A chill runs down my spine and I sigh. It was Devin. 'MATE!' Tara screams in my head. About time she made it clear...wait what?

An ominous snarl comes from behind us and Devin is ripped from me. Derreck is standing protectively in front of me, "Keep your hands to yourself."

Devin's eyes go black, his wolf at the fore. "You can't keep me from my mate!" he yells.

"Watch me. That's my little sister. I don't care if you're her mate or not. You will be respectful or I will rip out your guts and feed them to you. Don't test me kid."

"Der, he's my mate," I whisper.

Derreck's head snaps back to me. "I know that, but you're only fourteen. I'm not saying that I disapprove, but you're too young to be...with someone."

I blush and nod. I understood. He didn't say no, he just said not right now. Devin calms down at that realization. "Oh...well in that case, I'm sorry Mr. Berringer. I thought you were going to keep her from me. My wolf didn't like that."

Derreck just nods at him, "I wouldn't do that. One of you would end up with a rejection mark and if was my sister, I'd rip your head off. Plus, you're a good kid, at least you were last time I was here."

Kyle spoke up finally, "He still is."

"Well, Sarah, did you have your fun?" Der asks me.

Devin looks at me questioningly. "What does he mean?

"She wanted to see if you could catch her," Abby pipes up. I had to be beat red by now with how much I was blushing.

A grin spreads across Devin's face, "Oh really?"

"Yeah, and you didn't," I smirk.

Devin's eyes flash, but before he could do anything, Derreck steps in, "And you won't be trying again." A sigh comes from me. "Hey, I was a teenager not that long ago. I know what he's thinking and I don't want it happening. You got at least two years. Seventeen will be the lowest I go. Be happy that I'm giving you that much leniency. Anyone else and I'd say six."

Devin just nods. "Sir, I respect your sister, and you. I won't do anything to hurt her or disrespect either of you. If you want me to wait, I will." Derreck nods at him and I groan. Why did he have to be so protective...but then again, I really didn't know what the mating thing consistead of. I mean, sex probably, which I knew I wasn't ready for, but I have a feeling there's something else.

I resolved to ask Abby. She was the closest thing to a slightly motherly/older sister figure that I had. Hopefully she would know. I wonder if her and Derreck had gone through with the mating yet?

While all this was going on in my head, we had been walking back to the house and when I look up, we were already there. Damn, I really had been lost in thought. I hadn't even noticed we were here. Devin had his arm around my waist, and while Derreck kept eyeing it with a frown, he didn't say anything. It wasn't like he was groping me or anything, it was more protective. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the other young wolves and how they kept staring at me.

Hmm, I would have to talk to Derreck about that. He would know more about why they kept looking at me with those weird looks. I resolved to sit down at different times with him and Abby and go through both of those important questions. I wanted answers and they had them...hopefully.
