Derreck's POV:
I woke up in a room chained to the floor. The chains themselves were metal, but they had silver dusting on them, and I knew if I grabbed them to break them, I would just end up hurting myself. At least there wasn't any on the shackles or the links that came in contact with my skin.
I was sitting there for hours before the door opened and a man walked in carrying a stool. He set it down and plopped onto it and looked at me. "Do you know why you're here?" he asked.
"Yeah, 'cause I didn't kill your guys fast enough. One got a lucky shot in."
His hand shot out and my head whipped to the right. I knew a bruise would probably form for a little bit there before my healing fixed it. "No, it's because you are fighting for the wrong side. The council is old, weak, and outdated. We need someone who can run things with a firm hand and not let things get out of hand like they have."
"Is that so? And who do you suppose would be good for that position? No wait, let me guess, you?"
"No, as much as it may surprise you, not me. You."
"What? No way in hell would I do that. One I don't have the capabalities. Two, I have a mate and a pack to run. And three, I have no intentions of overthrowing the current council."
"Ah, but you see, your ragtag "pack" is defenseless with you here. What, did you think Kyle or Devin would be able to fend off a rouge attack by themselves? No, they might be able to with stand for a few minutes, but when they go, the rest go. I wonder how long before you go insane enough to crack. Is it when your pack dies? Or your sister? Maybe your mate? I wonder...it will be fun watching it happen. Oh...and yes, if I'm being honest, I will be the ruler. I'm just going to use you, the most powerful shifter alive to help me get there. Once you crack, I can reshape you to my image, so you do what I need you to do, without question."
"I'll never break. And you'll never touch my pack or my family. If I have to, I'll kill myself before you can use me."
He stood, grabbing the stool, "Do what you feel you need to. You'll either join me or die. Just I can't have you standing in my way. I know you're the only one who could possibly stop me."
I laugh, "That's where you're wrong. I'm not the only one, just the other one wouldn't be stupid enough to come after you. They know if they do I'll personally kick their ass for doing so."
He turned and looked at me, "And who might that be? One of your friends I assume? No matter, if they do, I handle them personally. I doubt they're as good as you."
Sarah's POV:
I was worried. And with Abby constantly crying, my nerves were starting to fray. Kyle and Blake finally walked in to the parlor where were sitting at the house Derreck had bought for the pack. I look up expectantly.
"Well, they aren't going to send anyone to look for him," Blake said.
"WHAT? THEY CAN'T DO THAT!" Abby and I both screamed.
"I couldn't change their minds on that one. They need every enforcer they have. They did approve something else though."
"Yeah, and its a bad idea. Derreck will kick both of our asses for this," Kyle says.
"I know, but it's not like we have much choice. If we want him back, its the only way."
"What, what is it?" I ask, willing to entertain any idea, no matter how crazy, if it would help get back Derreck.
"Well...they want us...Kyle, me...and you, to go rescue him."
I sat back, stunned. I hadn't been expecting that. I thought about it. I was probably the best one for the task anyway. I mean, Derrreck trained me himself so there wouldn't be many people in the whole world that I couldn't take on and win. But could I really kill someone if I had to? Yes, if it meant my life or Derreck's or Devin's or Kyle's or anyone else's that I cared about, I could do it.
"Let's do this." Devin, who had been standing in the doorway since Kyle and Blake had walked in immediately stepped forward.
"No, its a terrible idea. What if you get killed?"
"I'm going whether you like it or not. He's my brother."
"Well if you're going, then so am I. So that makes four of us."
"I want to go too," Abby said.
"No," we all said at once.
Blake, Kyle, Devin and I are in the weapon vault, the huge underground room Derreck has made for every house he have. He houses all sorts of weapons in them. Kyle and Devin are like two kids in a two store who were just told they can have anything they can carry. Blake and I are a little more reserved as we pack duffle bags with our chosen weapons. Every bullet, every blade are made of silver, and laced with wolfsbane. That way, its death or paralysis at the very least for werewolves. I was almost as good of a shot as Derreck so I had mor guns than blades. I did have two long bladed kunai for close quarters if it came to that.
When we were ready, we tossed everything into the Jeep and headed back to where we lost Derreck. We'd travel on foot from there tracking the bastards that kidnapped my brother. We knew they couldn't be far from there because there were no other cars except ours, we would have smelled them, and Derreck is big, so not easy to carry far. They had at mosts a twenty to thirty mile radius from where he was downed.
On the ride there we didn't talk much, everyone being on edge for what was to come. we knew that we could possibly die, but we didn't want to admit it or say it out loud for fear of making it a reality. Before we had gotten into the vehicle, Devin pulled me aside and whispered to me, "I know if your brother were here he'd kill me, but, well...seeing as what we're about to do I may not get another chance to do this..." he pulled me close and kissed me.
My lips still burned from that kiss, but I pushed it aside, intent on finding my brother. Since I was a cat and had the best nose, I gave my weapon bag to Devin and went behind a tree and shifted. I brought my clothes back out in my mouth and he took them and put them in the bag as well. I started sniffing around...almost like a dog, 'Gross,' Tera thought to me, 'I am NOT a mutt.' 'But you love one!' I laughed at her. I couldn't say much, 'cause I loved Devin too. He was my mate, how could I not?
I eventuallly picked up a faint trail and we followed it. By the looks of things, they didn't bother to even cover their tracks or hide their trail, assuming we'd never go looking for him or thinking they could take on whomever did. I was hoping for the former, but betting on the latter.
It was just under twenty-five miles from the point where Derreck was taken down that we found a hideout. It reaked of wet mutt and rouges. 'Great,' I thought, 'more problems.' Rouges were the least predictable and most savage advarsaries that you could fight. Luckily, they were all werwolves, or we'd have a bigger problem on our hands than that. It was a normal house, cut back into the woods, out of sight of the other properties in the area, and far enough away that sounds wouldn't carry to them either.
