A Second Chance Mate

3 years after Sarah shifting:

"Sarah! Get back here," I yell. She had grown a whole lot better at controlling her familiar, Tera, but every now and then, she got a little out of hand.

As she whisked in and out of trees, she disappered from sight. I wasn't going very fast, being naturally faster than her, because I was bigger and older, I would not have a problem keeping. All of a sudden, a loud mreow comes from ahead of me. I dart forward and see another cat, a female with a golden coat had pinned my sister down.

A growl leaves my maw as I barrel onto the scene, knocking the shifter off of Sarah. I pin the golden fured shifter to the ground and snarl. After a little bit of struggling, she gives up. I hop off of her, and headed to a tree. After Sarah shifted and we had escaped the people trying to kill us, I had bought this land, almost fifty acres of forest with our house and lawn on just an acre of it. I had stashed clothing bundles in water proof bags all around the forest for us. I quickly find one and pull on the gym shorts and toss Sarah her clothes. Grabbing the shirt that went with my shorts, I hand it to the female shifter and order her to go shift. I had lost my "authority" abilites when Bailey rejected me, but fortunately, I never lost the strength that I had gotten from it.

She comes back out and I hiss. This wasn't possible. Bailey was my mate! In front of me stood a girl with dirty blonde hair down just past her shoulders. She had blue eyes and a devil may cry aura about her. She was beautiful. Zander growled in my head, 'Its called a second chance mate. If you lose this one, I'll kill you myself.'

"Mate," the girl whispers.

"Uh...what?" Sarah asks.

"Mate," I say, "it's the perfect person made just for you. There's a pull between them, and you will do anything for them. But...you see...I already had a mate." The girl's eyes filled with hurt and Sarah's eyebrows raised. She had been trying to raise just one like me, but had never mastered it. "It was Bailey," I could see Sarah's eyes widen, recognition taking over her features.

"So...why'd we leave?" she asks me.

I sigh and look down. "She rejected me after I had to kill her father. He went insane and when Kyle banished him, he came back with an army of rogues. I, Zander, was forced to kill him to protect their pack. She rejected me afterwards," I say pointing out the rejection mark. It looked like a tattoo now. It reminds me of a celtic/tribal tattoo. Sort of like the celtic shield knot, with a weird symbol overlaying.

The girl looks at me more attentively now. "So...you don't want to go back to her?" she asks, a hint of optimism in her voice.

"Even if I wanted to, and I don't, I couldn't. She severed the connection completely. That's what this piece of the tattoo means," I say, pointing at the tribal overlay. "It means she's been marked by, and has marked someone else. If she hadn't, then I could've gotten her back. I don't think Zander wanted to though. He was scared, scared of being hurt again. He wouldn't talk to me for months after the rejection. He never blamed me for it, I think he blamed himself, for killing the old alpha."

I see relief wash over her face. "Oh, okay." She tries to down play it, but I could tell she was happy that I wasn't going to go back to Bailey.

"Don't worry, if he even so much as looked at her, I'd kick his ass," Sarah cut in.

I sigh again. "Sarah, what have I told you about, A, coming into other peoples conversations, and B, cussing in front of others. I don't care, but what if she minds?"

Sarah had the decency to at least look sheepish...until the girl trod all over that. "OH, don't mind me. I don't care one bit." I slap my hand to my face. "And, by the way, I'm Abigail. Call me Abby."
