"Y-Yeah, of course I will." Richie felt his heart racing inside of him. Eddie gazed up at Richie. He knew what this was, this feeling. And for the first time, he took it in and accepted it. He reached up and slowly placed his hand on Richie's cheek, looking into Richie's eyes. Most people made fun of him for how his eyes were enlarged by his glasses, but now Eddie didn't see what was bad about it. Richie had amazing, dark brown eyes. They might have been simple, but they were still beautiful in every way possible. They fit in well with all of Richie's freckles, the adorable spots scattered all across his face. For the first time, Eddie was looking at him differently. How could people think he's ugly? He's perfect. Eddie felt Richie's face get hot. He broke the contact and turned away from Richie.
What the fuck Eddie? Stop being so weird. Eddie started playing with his thumbs, not knowing what else to do. Richie stood up and went to the door.
"Hey, umm. The bell will probably ring soon." Richie unlocked the door to the closet.
"Y-yeah." Eddie stayed looking at his hands, avoiding eye contact with Richie.
A few minutes went by, the bell didn't ring. It was complete silence from the two boys. There were three classes left for them to go to for the day, including lunch. Both of them were well aware that nothing is going to change until someone talks.
"Hey Rich."
"Yeah Eddie?"
"Thanks." Eddie finally looked back up. Richie was leaning against the door with his hand on the handle. He probably thinks you're a freak now dumbass. Your best friend, of course you had to go with your BEST friend.
Richie made a small grin. "Anytime for my Eddie Spaghetti!" Richie sat down and ruffled Eddie's hair.
"Richie stop!" Eddie laughed while trying to get Richie away from him. He finally got him away and Richie gave him an evil smile.
"No! You better not! RICHIE!" Eddie scooted back to the other side of the closet. Richie chased him over and put his hands in the air. He flew them down onto Eddie and started tickling his sides. Eddie bursted with uncontrollable laughter and playfully hit at Richie. Richie stood up and cupped his hands on the side of his mouth.
"And the winner of this match issss... RRRICHIE TOZIERRR!" He said in his best Midwestern announcer voice. Eddie glared at him, "yeah yeah, I get it asshole." He stood up and brushed off his hands. Richie rested his arm around the smaller boy.
"I'm your asshole though."
Eddie blushed. What is that supposed to mean? "Yeah alright. Sure."
Bzzzzzzz!
"Hey! There's the bell." Richie swung open the closet door. "See you at lunch!" Eddie watched as he bolted down the hallway. Richie had to be the strangest boy he had ever met. Eddie giggled, and walked down the other direction to his class. This passing time he didn't even think about Bowers. He couldn't stop smiling over the craziest hour he had ever had. He couldn't lie though, Richie Tozier did make him feel better today than he had in a long time.
"Someone looks happy." Beverly joined in walking next to the small boy.
"Hey Bev, and yeah. You could say that." Eddie was still smiling more than ever.
"Aww, I'm happy for you man. Tell me all the details at lunch." Beverly was an amazing friend, and Eddie would have totally told her what happened if it wasn't about Richie, or at lunch. He wouldn't be able to tell her around all the other Losers, especially since Richie would be extra nosy to the conversation.
"Oh, it's for no reason at all. It's just a good day I guess."
Beverly smiled. "Dang, I would have wanted to hear something spicy today! But that's a good thing too. I'll see you later Eddie! Gotta get to class!" Beverly skipped back in the other direction. Eddie was happy she believed him. He wouldn't want to have someone thinking anything so soon. He doesn't even think it will work out anyway.
He went into his next class and checked out for lunch, excited to see the Losers and Richie.
Everything was normal. The table was a circle. The order went Ben, Beverly, Bill, Stan, Richie, and then Eddie. Everyone wished Mike would go to school, but it was a lot of fun with just those six anyways. Everyone talked about their days and Richie cracked a joke at every opportunity he could. No one brought up anything about that morning, and Eddie was kind of glad, but he didn't think of it as much of a big deal anymore.
"Hey I am hanging out with Mike later today so if anyone else can make it you can come." Ben offered.
"You know I would Haystack, but if I go I'd just be staying with his mom."
"Richie! His mom is dead!" Stan hit him in the arm with his book.
"Nothing wrong with that." Richie winked at Stan and chuckled as him and Eddie hit him repeatedly.
"Okay, for one, that's absolutely disgusting! You could probably get some kind of disease! Two, she died in a fire and is basically dust! Three, imagine if Mike was here! How would he feel by that!" Eddie was utterly concerned with Richie's humor sometimes. Richie calmed down and leaned over to Eddie's ear.
"I'm still staying over right." Eddie has forgotten about that, and about Bowers.
"You don't have to whisper, you know? It makes it seem like we have some secret."
"Okay, but am I?" Eddie nodded and pushed Richie back into his seat to keep the others from questioning.
Richie gave him a thumbs up and joined back into the conversation.
Eddie didn't think about how it was only going to be them two again. Just like it was in the janitors closet. He didn't think much of it. They had spent many times with just the two of them before, but something just seemed different today.
Eddie started heading back into his classroom early, he needed time to think, and he didn't know what to say in the conversation anyways. He had two hours until school would end. He would need to save his energy if Trashmouth was going to wear him out later.
