Eddie's eyes widened. We aren't close enough. Of course they weren't, of course Eddie wanted to kiss him until his lips hurt, and of course it was Richie. Eddie's head spun, he didn't even realize he was closer. Time was slowed, all other sounds were dulled to the beat of his heart pounding. He was smiling, his eyes closed. A warm feeling entered his stomach. He didn't know what he was doing, it was like he had no control over his own body.

He stopped. Everything came back to him. His eyes opened. He fought himself back, Richie opened his eyes, and Eddie put his hand over his mouth. His heart sunk, he watched as Richie's eyes filled with sadness.

"I can't do it." He moved his hand to Richie's thigh.

"Is it because it's me?"

"No! No, I- they're right there."

Richie looked over Eddie. They were still looking through the records. "They're distracted."

Eddie started to shake uncontrollably. He couldn't stop, his mind was racing. He didn't know what to do. What will Richie think? It kept getting worse. He didn't want to ruin this. He knew he had to pull away. You're a freak.

Eddie rubbed his eyes. "I'm sorry."

Richie was speechless. He thought it was something he said; that it was his fault. Eddie was still on him, with his head in his arms. Richie pulled him to his chest and engulfed him in a hug. He pet his head and hushed him.

"What would you be sorry for?"

Eddie turned and hugged Richie back. Not saying anything. His heart was sinking.

Eddie's legs came in to gently touch his side. Richie's eyes were wide. He wanted Eddie to be happy, and he sure as hell didn't think Eddie did anything wrong. But Eddie felt as if he ruined everything. Unlike Richie, his eyes were squeezed shut. Holding on to Richie with all his might. Eddie pulled away.

"I'm a wimp. Sorry."

"Woah woah woah- You are not a wimp. You are one of the bravest kids I know, dealing with a mom that lies out every step for you. But you know what? It's the wrong steps! That bitch is like death! And you've dealt with her for 16 years!"

Richie put his hand on Eddie's cheek, "You hear me you little shit? You can't be sorry." Richie smiled at him, a huge, crazy smile.

Eddie felt his whole body warm up with happiness. He didn't feel happy, but it was still able to give him strength. He weakly smiled back at Richie.

"There he is! There's that little cutie!" Richie pinched his cheek. "You gonna be alright??"

Eddie giggled, "Yeah, I'm getting there. Thank you Richie."

"Anything for you, Spaghetti."

Eddie nuzzled into his hand. The old feeling was sinking. Richie sure did make him better, he was the only one Eddie was worrying about. Losing what he just got seemed like hell. He did not want to know what life would be like without him. If over everything, he could not lose Richie as a friend.

"Should we pretend this just didn't happen?" Eddie asked.

Richie put his hand down and they got back into the position they started, with Eddie on his lap. Richie did not want to pretend, he was so happy. Why would I want to pretend it didn't happen? He pulled around Eddie and set his chin on his shoulder.
