Donghyuck bit his lip as he stared at his screen. He didn't know what he was doing, well he did but just didn't want to think much about it, and he was really hoping Mark would just ignore him. When Donghyuck woke up, he rolled around on his bed, groaning about how he was really tired, and then pulled his phone out to check if he had any messages. The only one he had was from Jeno, asking him if he wanted to hang out.
He wasn't expecting much, but Donghyuck thought that Mark would at least message him, telling him that he was sorry for calling so randomly in the middle of the night, only to confess to Donghyuck and then end the call without letting Donghyuck say anything. But there was nothing. No message. And Donghyuck wasn't angry, just annoyed, slightly.
And so, Donghyuck had decided to be the one to make the first move in attempt to clear the weird awkwardness he felt. Of course, he was messaging someone he hated, a lot, but he didn't want to start it off with an insult, the way he does normally with his friends (and even though Jaemin has told him that he doesn't like it, Donghyuck still initiates their conversations with a "yo asshole").
Me
hey mork
Donghyuck immediately face palmed as he realised he spelt Marks name wrong. His English wasn't bad, it was actually pretty good for a guy who didn't even try to learn the language, but he still messed up some words from time to time, and now Donghyuck had ended up embarrassing himself. But before he could correct his mistake, Mark replied.
Cutie that I HATE!!
Hey, Donghyuck right?Me
yeahCutie that I HATE!!
What's up?
Mark seemed pretty calm, in Donghyuck's opinion. Just yesterday he claimed that he loved Donghyuck, and had embarrassed himself, and ruined the 'im a bad guy' image, yet he seemed pretty fine talking to Donghyuck, who by the way was not looking for a guy who would stutter over text to him or something.
Me
ah I just wanted to text and
see if you were fine because
of last night, you know?
After that message, Donghyuck waited, but Mark didn't reply, instead left him on read. He had the audacity to do that. Donghyuck huffed and then jumped out of bed, getting ready to meet up with Jeno, who in Donghyuck's judgement was a much better person than Mark. Damn, Donghyuck thought, I really hate this guy to say he's worse than Jeno.
Donghyuck brushed his hair back and hurried down the hallway in his shared apartment. He glanced over at his brothers room, to see that the door was open and Taeyong was fixing his bed. Ignoring the presence of his brother, Taeyong walked out of the room and started to get on with the rest of his day.
"No, good morning?" Donghyuck asked, as he watched Taeyong pace around the room, picking up jackets and throwing abandoned socks into the laundry.
"Yuta's coming over," Taeyong said, hurrying to clean the room as much as he could. Yuta was Taeyong's boyfriend of 5 years. They met in school, went from enemies to friends, and then finally gave into the cliche and started dating. Ever since then, whenever Taeyong would be free, Yuta would take the chance to come over. As Taeyong had college, and Yuta did an apprenticeship, they never really had enough time for each. But whenever they did, they would spend all day together at home, spread over the sofa and watching a movie (or so they said, but Donghyuck was sure all they did was cuddle).
"Ah, cool," Donghyuck replied, thanking the fact that he had plans to leave already, and therefore wouldn't have to be locked in his room the whole day. "I'm out with Jeno."
"And Mark?" Taeyong suggested, turning around with the blankets Donghyuck had roughly folded last night. Donghyuck rolled his eyes and then shook his head, making his way to the door. "Bye Hyuck! Don't stay out too late."
Donghyuck waved back and then slowly began the long walk to the cafe, since he had left his house earlier than he planned, and didn't really want to spend time alone with a cold coffee. A few cyclists flew past Donghyuck, and he closed his eyes to somehow protect himself from the air. He hadn't left the apartment in ages, mostly because he didn't really have anywhere to go, and as he was too lazy to let go of his soft blankets and comfy sweatpants. So being out here, after ignoring all of Jaemin's requests, just for Jeno, was quite a big thing.
Donghyuck didn't like Jeno, he was just really fond of him. Even though they barely spoke, and when they did it would either be about school related work, or favours for each other, or even that odd hang out where they would pretend to be friends who had just been reunited after years. But Donghyuck admired the way Jeno did everything to help other people, except Mark apparently, and even when he was tired and stressed out he made time for others. It was really cute.
"Donghyuck!" Jeno exclaimed, throwing his hands up in excitement and then patting the seat in front of him. "It's been a while."
It had, in fact, been a while. Since school had ended and holidays started, Jeno and Donghyuck had not met each other. They were busy with their own friends (at least Jeno was) and couldn't make time.
"Jeno," Donghyuck smiled, sliding into the seat opposite Jeno. "How have you been? Shouldn't you be hung over or something? You were at a party last night, no?"
"I'm great! I mean, yes," Jeno nodded, leaning into his chair. "I do have a big headache, but I get them so often that it doesn't really affect me much anymore. What about you?"
"I'm tired," Donghyuck laughed, remembering how he spent practically the entire day yesterday on the sofa, scrolling through instagram and stalking people he didn't know he followed. "A little confused."
"Confused?"
"Mark?" Donghyuck said in a questioning tone. "How did he get my number? Why did he have my number? Why did he say he loved me? Why was he at the party and not me?"
Donghyuck pouted after the last question. Jeno, who was weak for those adorable pouts, laughed and then began to answer each question one by one.
"Yes Mark Lee," He started. "I gave him your number. He wanted to have you number. Because he has a big crush on you, and because you ignored the invite we gave."
"What invite?" Donghyuck asked, choosing not to react to the first few answers. He wasn't flustered by it, maybe a little annoyed that this annoying kid now had a crush on him, but just didn't want to talk about it.
"The one Jaemin sent," Jeno sighed, pulling his phone out and showing him the chat he had with Jaemin. Donghyuck ignored the name Jaemin was saved as - which was "Jaeminieeeee(灬º‿º灬)♡" - and read the messages he sent, explaining how Donghyuck had rejected the idea of getting out of his house.
"Oh," Donghyuck replied, leaning away from the phone and then stared off to space. Jeno began to ramble on about how tiring the party was and how heavy Mark was to carry. Donghyuck wasn't really listening to Jeno, as his mind was occupied by a cute blonde haired boy who he claimed to hate.
As if it was fate, the bell to the cafe rung, and Mark ran in, immediately clutching onto Jeno's arm and croed about how he has a big problem. Donghyuck watched as Jeno tried to hush him, since he hadn't noticed Donghyuck yet, but Mark didn't listen, instead continued to complain about how he doesn't know how to respond to a message that might've killed him.
"Just say you're fine.," Donghyuck interfered, knowing that the person Mark was talking about, was him. Mark snapped his head at the sound of Donghyuck, and his jaw dropped, the arm he had on Jeno"s shoulder slid down and he visibly gulped. "Hey."
"Hi!" Mark yelled accidentally, only to quickly lower his head in embarrassment.
Okay, so maybe Mark was cute in real life as well.
