"When will you stop teasing that poor soul?" Renjun asked with a sigh, unable to hide his disappointment when Donghyuck proceeded to wink at Mark from across the lunch hall. He could already predict what Mark's face looked like. He was probably all red with wide eyes, shocked that Donghyuck had decided to send a wink his way. Renjun knew Mark must've been misunderstanding his actions, anyone would with the way Donghyuck was acting. "He's going to blend in with the board behind him."
Donghyuck snicked at the comment and then sent another smile Mark's way, appreciating all the reactions he was getting from the other. He had priceless reactions.
"He's cute."
Renjun paused from where he was taking a bite of his food and placed his spoon down, interlocking his fingers before pointing them at Donghyuck seriously. "Are you sure you hate him?" He asked, almost laughing at how offended Donghyuck looked.
"Finding someone cute does not necessarily mean you like them, come on, Renjun. What world are you living in?" Donghyuck huffed, turning his attention away from Mark and finally started on his food. "I hate him, a lot. You wouldn't understand as you've never felt this way about someone before."
"Oh, really?" Renjun held his hands to his face to hide his smile and raised an eyebrow at Donghyuck. "And what exactly do you feel?"
"You see." Donghyuck put his hands down and leaned in to speak in a hushed voice. "Every time I think about Mark my heart beats really, really fast. It practically hurts at this point." Donghyuck makes a pained look and holds his hand on his chest. "This clearly, according to Google, is due to the vagus nerve being overstimulated, which can cause pain and nausea. Heartache is not the only way emotional and physical pain is intersected in our brain. Basically, in normal words, it means that I hate him."
"You googled this?" Renjun had to close his eyes to surpress his laughter.
Donghyuck suddenly had a serious look on his face, almost troubled by the idea. "Yeah, it was scary. I asked a few people and they said it could be some chest pains that I should get checked."
"Who did you ask?" Renjun asked, wondering just how far Donghyuck would've gone with his bizarre idea of hatred.
"My classmates," Donghyuck smiled. "They were really nice about it. I was so worried but they told me that there are definitely ways to get rid of it."
Renjun nodded along as Donghyuck continued spouting nonsense, too amused to stop him and clear his misinterpretation. Before he could say anything else to lead Donghyuck's idea into another strange field, Mark appeared by their table.
"Hey, Donghyuck," he said slowly, averting his eyes to the ground. So obvious, Renjun thought, wanting to hide his face because he felt awkward for Mark. "Wanna walk home together?"
"Yeah, sure," Donghyuck replied with a heart-melting smile (of course, Renjun rolled his eyes when Donghyuck continued to stare at Mark with hearts in his eyes, but it was a different case for the awkward boy standing there). "Come to my class after school, alright? I'll be waiting."
"Great!" Mark perked up and nodded happily. "I'll see you after school."
"After school," Donghyuck repeated and the two stared at each other in silence, both smiling. Renjun wanted to dig himself a hole and hide in it.
"Anyways," Renjun coughed and smacked his hands on the table, accidentally gaining attention from a few people around them. Mark blushed furiously and scurried away from them. "Let's go to lesson, yeah?"
"Fine," Donghyuck scoffed and stood up, the cheery mood around him previously completely gone. "Let's go."
Renjun watched the way Donghyuck got up and let. He chuckled softly as he followed the other boy. He's definitely got a crush.
-
"Hey," Mark said the moment he reached the class and saw Donghyuck standing out by the door. "Sorry for getting late, my teacher held me back."
"It's fine," Donghyuck shook his head and
pat Mark's arm. "Nothing can be done about annoying teachers, am I right?"Mark immediately responded with a nod, carefully creating a nice amount of space between the two before holding his back to the side Donghyuck wasn't standing. "You know, they recently opened up a new donut place near by. I was wondering—"
"Ah! The one near the train station?" Donghyuck interrupted him before holding his hand to his stomach. "Ahh, their donuts are so good, Renjun and I went to them just the day before. You should definitely go there with Jeno or someone. Ten out of ten would recommend."
"Haha, really?" Mark looked away in disappointment before nodding to himself. Got to get rid of Renjun, easy. Donghyuck glanced to his side and raised an eyebrow at the sudden change in the mood.
Feeling responsible, Donghyuck got an idea. "Actually, how about the two of us go today. As an experiment. Everyone has different tastes, so let's go together and if you like it then you can take Jeno with you another day?"
"Yes!" Mark answered almost too quickly. Donghyuck could practically see ears perking up from his head and a tail wagging behind him. He brought a hand to his face to muffle his laugh when Mark grabbed his wrist and then ran forwards. "Let's go quickly, it's a really popular place so it's better if we go their earlier than the others."
Donghyuck doesn't get to say another word before they're climbing the bus out of breath and laughing because of how everyone was turning to take second glanced at them. Mark leaned onto the pole by the door and held a hand to his stomach as he laughed. Donghyuck stared at him for a moment longer than he used to before glancing out the window, his heart beating fast for another reason. Yeah, I hate him.
-
"Is it good?" Donghyuck asked, anxious because of the way Mark's face had remained neutral as he took large bites of his donut.
Mark contemplates for a moment longer before finally giving in and nodding. "So good, I love it."
Donghyuck smiled brightly in response and giggled to himself. Mark indulged in the peaceful and happy moment for a while longer and then decided chaos.
"By the way, I was meaning to ask," he awkwardly rubs his fingers into the tissue, feeling annoyed by how uncomfortable and sticky he felt before turning his attention back to Donghyuck, who had been patiently waiting for him to speak. "Do you still hate me?"
Without a second thought, Donghyuck said, "Yes."
And the moment was ruined, all within a matter of seconds and a simple word Mark's fantasy was shattered. There he was, assuming that his feelings had finally gotten across and Donghyuck had come to understand then, acknowledge them and perhaps even reciprocate them. But, of course, he was foolish.
"I see," Mark muttered, turning away from him. "I'm sorry for bothering you, I'll leave you now."
Donghyuck stood in silence as Mark took small steps towards the exit. He paused and then looked over his shoulder at Donghyuck with expectant eyes.
"I'm really leaving now, like going home," he called out, watching Donghyuck make a surprised face. Feeling hope blossom inside of him, Mark made a move to return to his previous position when Donghyuck raised his hand and waved at him.
"See you at school then," Donghyuck said before grabbing his bag and walked past him.
Heartbroken, Mark pulled his phone out and messaged Jeno.
Mark: Donghyuck-ie hates me.
Mark: Please help me ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽
