"I was thinking," Lea mused to Claire, pulling her books out and slamming her locker with a definitive thud. "Maybe I should write a book."

Claire tilted her head to the side. "About what?"

Lea shrugged. "You know, loss, heartbreak. Anything tragic, really."

They walked down the hallway, maneuvering expertly across students in the way only high school seniors knew how to do.

They slipped past walking texters and couples holding hands with fluid ease. Claire seemed to glide rather than walk, looking almost ethereal for a moment.

She turned her face away from Lea.

"Maybe," she said softly. "Maybe you should write a book about me."
