Obito stirred himself awake, sitting up to see sand around him

He felt the sand slide off him as his back lifted off the ground

He clenched his fingers to confirm it. Yep, it was sand.

Obito looked to his left and right, no sign of his team anywhere

It wasn't new since he had to team up with Kakashi

Kakashi would always leave Obito alone and go continue the mission without him

But by the time Obito usually woke up, Rin would have found him

Obito felt a little scared, being in a desert by himself and all...

His hand went inside his pocket, making sure his candy was there, "Welp, at least I have this...", he said as he popped some gumdrops into his mouth

That's when he noticed some movement from the corner of his eye

He turned around to see a white blob in the sand

Upon closer inspection, Obito could tell that it was moving a little

Obito closer to the blob, seeing it stopped moving

When he started to look closer, he saw a kitten, causing him to jump back and land on his butt

It wasn't because Obito didn't like cats, it's just that cats didn't like him...

To his surprise, the kitten started to rub her neck against Obito, purring

Once Obito recovered from the shock, he laughed and started petting the kitten

Before the kitten could purr in response, a silky voice started calling out

"Hikari? Where are you? I know you're somewhere!"

Obito turned his head and torso around to you with your hands cupped around your mouth, eyes grazing around your surroundings

Your eyes meet and his and you flash him a smile. 

It felt nice, the only people who ever smiled at him where old man Hokage, his grandma,  Minato-Sensei, and Rin

"Hey! You must be lost. I haven't seen you around Suna before. Wait...You haven't happened to see a white kitten here, haven't you?"

Obito stood up, the kitten in his arms, handing it to you

"Thank you so much! Hikari! What did I tell you about running off like that, you had me worried!"

You looked up at Obito and slightly bowed to him

"I'm (y/n), nice to meet you."

You looked up, him being a few inches then you. He still was about your age, 13.

He smiled, grabbing his goggles, "I'm Obito Uchiha!"

Obito was a cool name, it was also odd...Your eyes wandered to his hair, it was covered in sand. Then you looked down to his clothes, they were covered in blood! He must be a hidden leaf ninja, considering he has a headband and he's an Uchiha, it's the 3rd Great Ninja War too...

Oh dear, this simply won't do!

You won't have any of this

You had to get him cleaned up

That would be the polite thing to do, no?

You had a lot of clothes from your brother who went rouge that would probably fit him

You smiled warmly at Obito, "Well then, Obito. How about we go to my place? I could give you some food and clothes. I could also patch up your wounds!"

Obito's heart swelled, you were like a second Rin! This was like a deal at Ichiraku's, but better! Medical help, new clothes, food, and possibly a new friend who is nice to him, unlike a certain silver-haired baka he knows

"Yes! That sounds great!"

"But...You might want to take off your headband...I'm from Suna. Even though we are not part of the war, we still aren't allied...Here, take this backpack to cover your clan symbol."

With that, you lead Obito to the direction of your house
