I released him and got off. After helping him up, I heard him give out a laugh.
"What are you laughing at? I just kicked your ass."
He shakes his head, "That's exactly it. No one, I mean no one has ever even come close to beating me. It's nice finally being challenged."
"Same for you. I mean, fighting my brother gets old after a while," I grab my water bottle out of my book bag and take sip, "Do you think we could work on close combat? I love using my quirk, but I need to make sure I'm working on other skills too." Todoroki nods, sipping on his own water before closing it and standing in front of me.
I stand with my right foot forward and take the first punch. Todoroki dodges it, stepping to the left. He does a left-leg kick and I catch his foot with my hand, sweeping it from out under him. He falls to the ground, but not before using his other leg to kick my legs, taking me down with him. I fall on top of him, quickly pinning his hands above his head. I have my right leg crossed over his to keep him from moving.
"Thought you were better than this," I smirk. He uses his strength to flip us over, "And I thought you were too?" I glare at him. We go to wrestling on the floor for a few minutes, ending with me under him again, completely restrained. I try my hardest to shove him off, but his strength is greater than fine.
"Give up?" He smirks.
"Never." I shuffle around a few minutes before sighing, "Fine. You win." He immediately gets off of me, helping me up. "Just so you know, you only won cause I let you," I says sassily.
Todoroki rolls his eyes, "Whatever you say, Bakugo."
I walk over to my bag, dabbing the sweat off my forehead with a towel and grab my phone. 6:00. "Dang, it's already 6. I better get going. Thank you for doing this with me, it means a lot, Todoroki."
Todoroki shrugs, "It's not a problem. Anytime you want to train, just ask. I liked be a little more... challenged." He grabs his bag and we both head for the door. Soon enough, we both realize that we needed to walk in the same direction, so we walked together.
"Why do you want to be a hero, Bakugo?" Todoroki asks, out of the blue.
"Well..." I scrunch my eyebrows together, "My brother is a huge bully. Always picking on people who are 'below him'. I guess I've always been the person to stop him. As much as I hate that he hurts people..." I look down at my feet, "I'm almost glad. It helped me realize how I loved helping people. People who can't help themselves. I mean, someone has to look out for the little guys, right?"
Todoroki gives me a small smile, "That's a very admirable reason."
"What about you, Icy Hot?"
"Icy Hot? That's a new one. Although, I think I prefer it to Dumbass," He says sarcastically.
"Don't avoid the question, Icy Hot."
Todoroki sighs and is quiet for a moment, "I'm trying to prove someone wrong." He leaves it at that, obviously not wanting to talk about it. I respected that.
Soon enough, we arrived at my house. "So..." I say, standing awkwardly at my door, "You wanna hang out again, tomorrow?"
"Of course. Training again tomorrow, too?" Todoroki nods.
I nod, "Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow, Icy Hot." I give him a small wave, closing the door behind me.
I sigh with a small smile on my face and slip my shoes off at the door. I can hear my Dad in the kitchen making dinner, while my mom and brother argue. After running upstairs quickly to drop off my bag, I go back down to greet my parents.
"Hey, mom," I give her a kiss on her head, "Hey, dad." And another one to him.
"What's got you in such a good mood, honey? You seemed pissed this morning?" My mom questions, taking a break from yelling at my brother.
"Oh, nothing," I say, the tiniest smile grazing my face.
"Look dear," My dad says, glancing at my mom, "She's in love."
I make a face, "In love? No, I just... Made a new friend." I shrug.
"You better not be. I'll have to kick their ass if you are," Katsuki shouts, in a playful manner, thinking I had gotten over our arguement. My mom slaps him in the head. Thanks mom.
I glare at him with razor eyes, "Like you have any say in my life."
Katsuki's eyes go wide and he sighs as he rubs the back of his head.
"Dinner's done!" My dad shouts, trying to stop an argument from breaking out. We all grab a bowl and serve ourselves soba, and sit down at the dining table. We ate dinner quietly, mom asking a few questions about our day. Once we were finished with dinner, me and Katsuki washed dishes.
It was awkwardly quiet, and Katsuki kept looking at me, about to say something then would stop himself. We finished the dishes quietly, not a single word spoken between us, but we moved fluently around each other, as we always had.
After we finished, I dried my hands and walked upstairs to my room. I grabbed my notebook and some pens and pencils to start my homework. With headphones blasting, I got lost in my homework, completing it without a hassle. After a couple of hours highlighting and smudging ink on my hand, I was finally finished. I closed my books with a sigh and placed them back in my book bag.
I grabbed a towel and took a nice, long shower. As I was washing my hair, it occurred to me that I was always in my brother's shadow. Sure, I was still respected and had a powerful quirk, but I was always just 'Katsuki's sister.' I was always second best. The worst half. And everyone was right to think that. I could never live up to my brother. I would never be as strong or as smart as him, no matter how hard I trained. A few hot tears fell on my cheeks, but were washed away by the cool water.
I wiped away my tears and stepped out of the shower. I got dressed in an old t-shirt and laid down for bed. I could only hope that it would be a better day tomorrow.
