i sat down across from her again at breakfast. today, she had a tray. she picked around at her pancakes, and again, when i set my tray down, she jumped.

"goodmorning, aerin."

"goodmorning, michael."

"how are you today?"

she seemed shocked at my eagerness to converse with her. "i am alright."

"only alright?"

she nodded.

"would you like to know how i am?"

again.

"i am quite lovely, thanks for asking. and would you like to know why?"

for the third time.

"because regardless of the fact that i am stuck in here, in this abyss, this black hole, this absolute living hell, i am stuck in here, graced with the presence of an individual as beautiful as you."

she smiled. and she blushed. and she replied simply with a squeaky, "thank you."

and then she stood up and walked away to dump her full plate of food into the garbage bin.

and as i watched her walk away, i realized that i fully, completely, 100% believed in love at first sight.
