Chapter#08

His eyes snapped open and he slowly rise up. He didn't needed to look at the clock to know what time it was. From last ten year, his routine of waking up had not changed. His biological clock would wake him up 6 am every morning but today he didn't directly get out of the bed but instead turned his head to look at the empty side which had stayed like that for 3 decades already. The space filled with nothing but air had never made him pause his thoughts to look at but today, after Maya he had woken up only to look at it with impatience. As if the empty space was mocking him, taunting him like the sweet voice in his head to move forward, to grab her. Take her as his.

He unwillingly turned his head and started walking towards his bathroom, he took a quick shower before wrapping a towel around his waist and walking in his walk-in, he pulled out some sweatpants and t-shirt. It was Sunday so he didn't had to go to work and today was also when his housekeeper used to drop by to clean up his place.

After eating his breakfast, he took his laptop, glasses and newspaper, made himself a cup of fresh coffee and sat down on his terrace. The sky outside was still dark but the cold air just heighten his senses as he quietly read the newspaper as his laptop started.

As the sun starting to dawn itself on the earth, he was already checking his emails. One of them was from Jack who was supposed to send him everything on Maya's family. It was a long document so he slowly leaned back and started reading. It seemed like Maya only had Nessie and her father for the living family. Her father was a retired policeman who was pushed to resign after his alcoholic issues got out of hand. There were also records of Nessie filing a domestic violence case against her father but unfortunately there weren't any details of who was actually hit and he hoped to God it wasn't Maya.

Nessie had moved out almost 6 years back and then Maya also moved in with her almost 4 years back. Their father was still in contact with Nessie but Maya didn't had any contact with him. In last 4 years, she didn't visit him even once while Nessie had dropped by after every few months.

There was also some information on Maya like where she graduated from and her grade sheets. There were few pictures from her high school days which he saved in his laptop very bluntly without a second thought. It seemed she was in her volleyball team and actually would have made it to nationals if not for a leg injury. He checked the date and it seemed like an accident happened few days before semi-final which had almost crushed her right leg. It was later fixed through putting a permanent rod in her leg. There weren't any details of the accident.

Chris frowned. He had never noticed anything amiss with her movement.

There was also other information but Chris wasn't really interested in it. He already got some idea about both Nessie and Maya's father the rest he will ask Maya himself.

Now that James was out of Maya's life, he wasn't worried. He also already made someone patrol around her apartment in case Nessie brings over another man but it seemed like she was really heartbroken over James disappearance. Maya also moved back yesterday after finding out that James was gone from Nessie's life which means he could finally get back to thinking over how to make Maya conscious of him.

After he read the report on Maya's family he opened his own work and started to review the pending documents and programs which needed to be rewritten. He only rise up to get himself another cup of coffee and opening the door for Mrs. Gomez, his housekeeper.

It was around 3 pm when he finally got free. Rubbing his eyes, he called Evan.

"Did you told Valentine to meet us today?" He went straight to the point.

"Yes, we will be meeting at 10 pm in the club."

Chris frowned and it seemed like Evan understood that he wasn't happy so he sighed and said, "You made the club for people like Valentine. You know he will not simply waste his night discussing business with you."
