Neko Peridot, Highschool AU

-Peridot's POV-

First day of school. Great. I guess I should be thankful this school allows me to wear hoods. Otherwise I'd have to be homeschooled because I'm... A freak. A neko, is what it's called.
Apparently, every so often, a child can be born with the ears and tail of a feline... And I am of them.

We were supposed to go to the gym for a before-school rally where we went over rules and got our schedules.
I sit down next to a girl with dark blue dyed hair. "Hey." She says. Okay, she's an emo. A cute emo, at that...

Woah, wait, no no no! I can't be having a crush on the first day....

... Can I...?

"H-hello!" I say, suddenly realizing that I haven't responded and have been staring for a while now. "This place sucks. These people suck. You seem cool, though. Even if shy." I felt my face heat up slightly. "S-sorry..." I say. "Hey, it's cool. Don't apologize. Anyways, I'm Lapis." She says.

Lapis... What a pretty name. Suits her, too. 

"I-i'm Peridot, but I like being called Perri..." I tell her nervously. I just know my ears are flat underneath my hood. She blinks and then, after a moment of silence between us, says, "Nice name." After that, the announcements start.

<time skip>

-Lapis's POV-

I guess I have a lot of classes with Perri. I'm chill with that. She's about the only person in this damn place who seems like a human being who isn't plagued by stupidity. Well, that and... I-i guess she is kinda cute... I wonder why she wears a hoodie all the time? I mean, I get it, they're comfortable, but still.

"Something on your mind, Lapis?" She suddenly asks me. School was just about over, we're in our last class of the day (study hall). "Hmm? Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking." I tell her. Soon yet not soon enough, the bell rings.

"Hey um... My mom won't be back until late tonight... Could we maybe... hang out?" She asks. I was a little surprised by the request, but am I really going to deny her? I mean, she's cute and shy, and I find that adorable.

"Yeah, I don't see why not. My parents really don't care, the only rule is no boys in my room. Which is funny, because I'm like, hella gay." I tell her with a breathy laugh. She blushes slightly. "S-so... C-can I walk home with you?" She asks. I nod, smiling a little.

She smiles back and we start walking out of the school.

"By the way, Perri," I start as we walk to my house. "Why do you always have your hood up? You don't have to answer, but I am curious."
"O-oh, that! Um.. W-well, it's complicated... And I don't really want to tell anyone.. I'm afraid if I tell one person, they'll tell the next and so on and so forth, and soon enough the whole school will know and-"

"Perri." I cut her off, stopping to look at her. "Y-yes?" she asks. I lean down to meet her height, as she is shorter than me.
"I hate every single person but you at that school. Do you really think I would tell anyone?" I say to her.

-Peridot's POV-

I guess she has a point...

"Alright, fine, but it has to be at your house, in private so no one else knows." I say, blushing a little.
"Deal." she says, standing up and walking again, myself following shortly behind. (Literally shortly-)

We soon reach her house, and we head to her room, where she sets her bags down. "Feel free to set your stuff down too, Perri. Oh, and come sit; bed's messy but it's comfy." Lapis says.

I set my bags down and sit on the bed, a bit tense because I'm really nervous about showing her my stupid cat ears and all!

"So, about the hoodie." She says, sitting next to me. I nod a little. "Don't freak out but-"
I pull the hood down, and her reaction is not what I expected. I expected her to laugh, but she just tilted her head.

"I can't tell if those are real or if you're just a furry." She says, making me blush. "They- they're real. They're very, very real. Which is why I hide them." I tell her.

"Aww, you shouldn't hide them, in my opinion," she starts, petting and playing with one of my ears, making me purr a little.
"They're cute. They compliment your blonde hair."

I blush at that and lean into the touch, making her actually giggle softly. "Perri, you're so adorable."
"I-i-" I start, but I can't speak, which only makes her smile more. "Are not straight?" she says in a joking tone, though the meaning of the words is genuine.

"P-probably true-" I admit, blushing more. "Well, you got a shot with someone right here, you gonna take it?" Lapis asks, smiling and scooting slightly closer to me.
"You know what, yeah, I think I'll take it." I say, though blushing from the situation.

"Good, I was afraid I'd have to outright say that you're totally gay for me." She jokes, laughing softly.

Then she kissed me. Oh stars wait- I've never kissed anyone- but I mean I try to kiss back.
When she pulled away, I was a blushing and stuttering mess, to which she laughs a little. "Did I break you?"

"I never kissed anyone before- I can't believe I just did-" I mumble, making her smile and pet me.

Yes. Success. Lapis is my girlfriend, and this day has been a good one. I am happy.
